long trips
Got back Friday morning driving from Boston to port charlotte, FL over to Daytona beach, back up to myrtle beach and back home to Boston in the lightning. ( while staying out of the path of the hurricane )The entire trip was about 7 days. I do this 2 times a year to bike week/Biketoberfest in fl and I have to say this lightning is awesome. I saw 2 others in fla. One hauling a full-size trailer that holds about 8 bikes near Disney, the trailer was twice the size of the lightning and the other driving by in Daytona Beach. We stopped to go to the 8th airborne museum in GA, when I noticed a screw in the front right tire. Grabbed the pliers and touched it and had air escaping. Tossed the spare on and headed into town to get it plugged (love that cable setup for the spare). When they were changing the tire all the mechanics and people from across the street came over and were in awww at the truck. Id have to say about 20 people total were around the truck. The damage was 5 bucks and i had to open the hood so he could see what was inside.
Jeese maby i shouldnt have asked about the tire pressure
had a blast in the lightning, to bad I have to put it away for the winter.

Took the words right out of my mouth, Zonaman!
Keith,
Hope you had a good time at Biketoberfest. My wife and I bike over to Daytona Beach (only about an hour and a half away) for this event and for Bike Week in March and always have a great time. Best people watching in the world.
What kind of bike do you ride? I own a '94 FXLR and love it. Have never towed it but am considering buying a trailer. Aren't Lightnings and motorcycles a great combination!

ouch guys, guess its time to move
got any room?
yea had a blast, we got in a bit early mon and tues, but there way plenty of trouble to get into, Ive been going in march for the past 5 years, we always stay at the Sun Viking. I cant believe most of the pier is missing ;( and alot of places still had no power when we got there.
My current bike is a Triumph Super III, with black flames and a two brothers setup, love that bike, also have a Valkyrie with supertraps, BMW r80 and my father and I are restoring a 49 harley. Sold our 78 1/2 superglide and 883 for the Valkyrie , but still looking for a cruzer for those long trips. We didnt take the bikes cause of the storm, but in august we drove to sturgis and used a DZ trailer which worked very well, plus its nice and light. We hauled the the Valkyrie 800lbs and my triumph which is no less then 550lbs wet and in march hauled a fully dressed harley and my triumph to daytona. we left in a blizzard and came back in one.
our luck, we always hit the storms.

Keith,
Sorry for the off-topic post everybody, but just one more bike question: What year is your Trumpet?
I have a soft spot in my heart for them (and BSA's too) because my first "real" motorcycle (if you don't count a moped when I was 13, followed by a Cushman scooter the next year) was a Triumph - a little 200cc Tiger Cub I rode back in the early 60's. Traded it for a 500 cc BSA Gold Star thumper.
Good memories. Ok, guys; sorry for all the bike stuff. Back to Lightning's now.....

10-4 on that motorcycle-Lightning combo!! I have a great Wells-Cargo enclosed motorcycle trailer for hauling my 96 Goldwing or Kawasaki ZX-11. The Goldwing and trailer together weigh around 1800 lbs. The lightning hauls at 80 MPH and you don't even know the trailer is there, except for the dropping gas guage!! Heck, who cares about the gas, though. Looking good going down the road is much more important.

Great lookin' bikes, Keith. That Valky is awesome! Would love to ride one someday.
I also used to own an 883 and also punched it out to 1200 (well, actually, I exchanged the 883 jugs for 1200cc versions). I like the tail section on your 883/1200.
