Predator $400
Tune for your KB at said PSI $100
Lower Pulley for said PSI $150
Plugs $100 (Denso's maybe cheaper but I'm rounding up)
170 degree T-stat $20
Total 'package price' for a KB from stock: $4470

Whipple (Tuner package): $3800
Plugs $100
Total 'package price' $3900
Upper pulley change if you wanted $75 for a upper bling pulley.

Looks cheaper to me but everyone is going to say something different. I don't know of 1 person running a KB on a stock tune so I find it funny everyone forgets to mention the additional price of a OPredator or X-cal and tune. I think the tuner kit is great for those that will need a programmer, it might even be cost effective to get the tuner kit if another tune can be written for it. Just my thoughts.

Are there even any whipples in existance(SP?) besides the one V had???

hmmm let me check...

yep, and I know of atleast 5 people with kits that are tuning now. Whipple is in the process of backfilling Cobra and Lightning kits now. FedEx is not exactly thrilled about the hundreds of 80lb packages but the guy that's picking them up will probably not have to go to the gym anymore.

hehe new meaning to "Nice Rack!"

If I decided to do it all over again? Hmmmmm

My '03, stock block, 16lbs boost, KB, 12.1 af, 14 degrees timing produced 496/562 on a 90 degree day in humid Miami.

Now hp/torque numbers mean zero in my opinion as I only put down a 12.22 at 111mph in my four attempts in Bradenton. (fair to say that I had blown one coil, but never-the-less track times are what matter).

Was I happy with my KB, damn right, wished I had the cash to build the lower and take her to 18lb, 20 even 22lbs, but never got there.

I have heard alot about this whipple, but until results hit the board with track time improvements over the KB I am thinking of it as a first model year vehicle.

This is the first time I am hearing that the JLP upper plenum is an absolutely necessary evil with the KB???

Good Luck in your decision.

When I posted my Whipple results over the KB, I was told that the JLP upper plenum was needed for optimum performance.

Vinnie, I must have missed that post when I went to the dark side with the Z06
So.......... Johnny actually knows what he is talking about

Certainly not knocking him, I am one of his fans. He helped me without any financial gain in Bradenton in '04. Stand up guy and if I go the built route with the '99 it will be with a JLP lower.

Thanks for the info!

For 14lbs I think. Some more forged bottom end happy people don't see the point in anything less than 20# which the tuner is not set up for as far as I know. #14 street all day 20# Track tunes are not supplied by KB either.

So most people will be tuning it anyway? Just like most people will already have a bunch of the parts "required" for the KB? In the end it appears to me that the project price is going to be pretty equal, KB vs. Whipple.

#1 you don't need a jlp plenum for a kb. #2 most already have an intake and and elbow so the stuff people bought is going in the garbage or for sale forum. #3 if a tune comes with it, how good is it, and again, most people are already using a mail order or dynotune. they seem to be more expensive unless your 100% stock. but i imagine since it comes with a set of fasteners and gaskets its worh it.
