Got a problem & need some help, please read..

I really need some help here..

My truck will die about once or twice a month while coming to a stop. It is exactly like you are forgetting to push a clutch in on a manual trans. I can throw it into nuetral to stop it but putting it back in drive then taking off is a challenge because I guess the torq. conv. is still locked?
If I shut the truck down for a minute or so and start it back up it will usually be fine again.

Last year I had the torq conv. replaced, a solenoid and neither helped, then finally the tcc control valve was replaced (per Greg E.) and that seemed to fix it for over 6months, until now. It started it again a few weeks ago.

So, has anyone experenced this? does it sound like the t\c is staying locked when coming to a stop?

I have a predator, what could I monitor to tell if the t\c is staying locked up when coming to a stop?

Any help, tips, try this...etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and no other symptoms except what's described above. It runs fantastic and shifts perfectly. *It has never thrown a code.

Thanks
-Rich

i had the same problem when i used the DiabloSport Predator tune for the first time.. i later took it to Sal at PSP for a cam install and dyno tune, after that the problem was gone.. it maybe something tune related if you are using a tuner or chip.. goodluck with your truck..

It did it with a chip last year and without the chip. Now w\pred. tune it's doing it again.
The idle is perfect, when it messes up while coming to a stop there is still a definate load on the engine i.e. it's wanting to pull not stop.

Like I mentioned, if you have ever come to a stop and forgot to push in your clutch that's exactly what it feels like. Once it's cycled through this it will be fine for weeks. I have had IAC problems (wouldn't idle) cleaned it out and it was fixed.

Hostile03SVT; I have wondered if it could be electrical, bad ECM?

keep em' coming please!!!

Sounds like the ECU is keeping the converter in Lock-up.

You haven't by any chance added long tube headers or done some exhaust work have you? Reason being the wire harnes if it makes contact with the exhaust could be the cause.

God Bless,

Silver-Bolt; Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I wasn't sure if it was hanging on to fourth or what while stopping but now that I can tell when it's going to do it I have tried downshifted manually 2nd, to 1st but it didn't make any difference. So I'm assuming it's staying locked.

I have thought about replacing the ECU, maybe when I was chipped I could have damaged it while scrapping that goo off? however, when I had the TCC control valve replaced it was good for 6+ months..so i dont know.

Suavy; No exhaust work, except a cat back in July but it was doing it before that. I could still take a look at that though.

thanks for responding..please keep the help coming.

i agree now that i re-read what he was saying.. i would contact your tuner.. maybe there is something he can do maybe email you a program or something to try and change your convertor lock up.. or try this first.. disconnect your battery for 30minutes and reconnect it.. if it works it was a free fix.. give it a shot what ya got to lose...

I was wondering if via the tune lock-up could be controlled and\or turned off. that way I would know for sure, even though I am fairly certain that's what's happening. I just don't fully understand how a t\c works and what all controls it.

I will try the battery thing, I hadn't done that this time but I did try that back when I had a chip.

Reg. my tuner: That's were I started a few weeks ago, asking about logging some data etc.. I'm still waiting for a response.
