Red face I LOST

Ran a 98-00 WS6 firebird sat nite. From a roll at 20mph. Was not an even start. I was at door to LR tire. He went into second he was spining and coming close to my lane. I had made it to his front tire , then he hooked and he started to pull. I fell back to rear tire. He shifted agian I pulled to door. Then he started pulling again. I was losing ground. Bye 80mph was at back bumper and begain to back off. Wish I had the chip and filter on order for that race. Gave guy tumbs up. Does anyone think chip+filter would have helped? Second time I've lost. First lost was to a 99 lightning with 3.73 gears, chip, filter, upper pulley , and NOS(80 shot). He said he would not use NOS , but how could he have jumped 5-6cars ahead. Then after talking (at 70mph). We hit it again (a dodge was riding our bumpers like he wanted some). His bumper was at my door. Stayed that way up to 120mph. Had to let out was coming up on hill droping to right. I belive if he took me that bad out of the hole ,that he should have took me from 70mph. What do you think?
Bye the way we left dodge looking at lights leaving him in the dark.

of course the chip & filter wouldnt have helped, they only make you slower. That is why everyone has added them, to go slower . DUH of course, you may not have beat him, but it sounds like you defiantly wouldnt have lost (does that make sense???) From the way it went if you had the filter/chip you would have gotten a big head start on him while he was spinnin. He probaly would have caught you, but it wouldnt have been till you had hit over 100mph.

I know chip and filter help. Have talked to Bill M. He has both (chip+filter). My ? was helped to kill F body. But you just answered ,would have just delayed lost. He may have let out though before 100mph if I was in front. LOL

With a chip and a filter, you'll likely pull .4-.5 in 1/4 mile ET easily, if not more. At 102+mph (roughly the finish line trap speed), .5 seconds is ~149 feet. This is substantial, in my opinion. Some people don't think a half second is much...even on a 13-14 second vehicle. Well, it is. And the faster you go the bigger the separation.

Point is, if you can pick up 7-8 car lengths by adding a good chip/filter combo, then you'll win that stoplight encounter. How many times do you race a full 1/4mile+ on the street...unless its an organized street race or you're on the highway at highway speeds?

As Yoda said, if its a 6-speed and he's spinning, you'll pull him very hard out of the hole. My brother's '99 Ram-Air T/A (WS6 car) runs great trap speeds (108mph+ in average air), but it hooks up only marginally. He hasn't run as quickly as my truck ET-wise, but over 105mph I know he'd come by me eventually.

Cool

If the race was that close there is no doubt in my mind you'd have walked the dog on his *ss with the chip and filter. The only way he coulda beat ya' is if you race all the way to top end where his aerodynamics would have given him the eventual edge. But how often do ya race to that speed?

BTW, I believe there is a 30 day money back guarantee on those things, so whats to lose? You WON'T regret getting them, you'll wonder why you waited.

Red face

Have to agree with you folks. Jumping him out of the hole never hurts. At the very least you might embarrass, frustrate or make him mad which can lead to a mistake.
