Question Lightning lighting upgrades?

Say that ten times fast! Sheesh

I was wondering if anyone upgraded their lighting on their truck with brighter bulbs, etc. I was also wondering what type of bulbs are in the fog/driving lights. Thanks everyone

That was the first thing I did to mine. I replaced the driving light bulbs with IPF Super Whites. (They are type H3) I then replaced the headlights with APC Super Ultra whites (9007s). They give off that great import/euro blue hue and really set the truck apart when driving down the freeway or just in town. People say they see me coming just because of my headlight signature. They tint the road ahead a cool blue. I also replaced my turn signals with clear corners, and did the same with the rear tail lights. Instead of replacing the bulbs with red ones I used red bulb covers. (the red bulbs seemed to tint the whole lens red when I wanted it clear)

Thanks Floyd91
If you got a pic of your lights send it my way. Do you know if the fog lights stay on with the highbeams or do they shutoff. I think painless wiring makes kits to keep them on if they shut off. Laterz

Floyd91,

Where did you get the IPF Super Whites for the driving lights? How much? Were they easy to install? Do they have a blue tint? Sorry for all the ???'s, but I have been looking for a while.

Pacecar18,

I installed the Wizard UltraWhite 9007's (?)that Roger has in the online store and have been very pleased with them. They are significantly brighter and whiter with just the slightest hint of blue. They show more blue just looking at them in the daylight (turned off).

I think the white light makes it easier for me to see at night (I'm a bit nightblind and the yellower color of standard headlights gives me fits, I just can't see as clearly with them).

The blue headlights didn't do anything for me, they even made it harder to see than standard lights.

about .02 worth...

if you turn the high beams on the fog lights shut off if you just pull back on the turn signal indicator the brights come on and the driving lights stay on. I will take a bunch of pics of my truck this weekend. I want to get some of the clear tail lights to show everyone

wyldman: I purchased them through a local store. "Accessories unlimited", I got them for about 35.00 bucks. They were very easy to install, getting the light back into the bumper and aligned was about the hardest part. They do have a slight blue tint.

Always glad to answer ??s

Question

Floyd91,
Were you able to change just the bulbs (H-3) on the fog/driving lamps? I was understood that the lens/body/lamp was one unit.
Thx.

I also have the APC headlights, looks good but will go white next time. With tinted rear window get some halogen back-up lights, 2.5 brighter really helps. Desightech style3156 about $20

Just in case you want the Max Super White bulbs. There only $40.00 which is a perfect price for these things. http://www.sportbikes.net/bulbsallvehicals.html

I have these in my headlights and foglights. What a difference!

Before I forget.. Dont buy the JC whittney!!! They can melt the sockets for your bulbs! No good! Just a friendly warning.

Question

hey FloydF1, when you say "driving lights" do you mean the fog lights? Or are you talking about the turn lights?

Floyd,

What exactly is involved in replacing the fog lamp bulbs? How long does it take and how easy is it to replace and re-align? Is this a simple DIY job or is it best left to the dealers? And finally, doesn't the extra heat adversely affect the plastic lenses?

Thanks!

Yoda~When I say driving lights I mean the fog lights....I guess. I'm used to seeing fog lights as a yellow color.

Thunder~As far as instalation goes, they are held on (into the bumper) by one bolt, undo that and the pull right out, pop the clip off and the light will be right there, unplug it and replace with the new H3 bulb. When I put them back in I did not try to realign them. I do not see how it can be done. They are aligned perfectly still. I have noticed that they put off more heat when you touch the plastic, so do the headlights, but have yet to see any adverse affect. (knock on wood). I would say go for it, do it your self. It takes a good 10-20 minutes to do em.
