First 2000 track results, 3 kills, 1 loss
It's 12:45AM, just returned from Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix. With a whopping 250 miles on the odometer, I decided it's time to baseline the L. The first 2 runs of the night it was a warm 75 degrees, the last 2 runs temp dropped to about 65 degrees. I was so excited as I staged for the first run I could hardly handle it. Each run I made, I power braked up to about 1000 rpm and had very little wheelspin on each run. Each of my runs were so consistent I could hardly believe it.
1st run was against a 92 5.0 GT (modified):
14.478 @ 96.22, 60' 2.287, the GT ran a 14.427.
2nd run was against a Dakota 5.9 RT (he had a K&N and some other minor mods):
14.428 @ 95.92, 60' 2.251, the 5.9 ran a 15.424.
3rd run was against a 97 Chevrolet full size extra cab short bed 2 wheel drive w/the 5.7 Vortec: 14.356 @95.88, 60' 2.193, the Chevy 16.192.
4th run was against a hopped up mid 60's chevy short bed pickup: 14.466 @ 95.02, 60' 2.182, the Chevy 14.68.
I cannot believe how well this truck launched for me. It was much easier to hook up than my 96 LT1 Vette. Oh, there was 99 Lightning there tonight, he had a K&N filter and an intake tube, with that he said he was running 13.8's. He installed a Flowmaster muffler and tonight he ran a 14.11 and a14.23. He says he lost low end torque.
The truck seemed to launch very hard each time and pull very strong, till about half way up the track or so, and then instead of feeling like the blower should be pulling the motor harder, it seems as though it started falling off the power band. Is this just because I have not broken the truck in yet, or is this what it feels like until I put the chip and filter on? The other Lightning was extremely impressed with my times, he said if I'm running those times no, I will see a noticeable improvement in about 3-4 thousand miles.
Very cool 1st outing!

peter b, i'm not normally upat this time of night, but this sinus infection is tearing me up! at 300 miles on the L i made 2 runs, 1st: 14.1 2nd: 14.2. of course several different factors could influence your runs. no doubt your low miles, perhaps altitude,
temp, barometric pressure and so on.but get this. at 1800 miles i was running 13.8's and at 3000 13.6's. my hypertech chip got me to 13.3's. when my L had low mileage i could bearly spin the wheels without a little power braking. got plenty of that now! it's gonna get faster don't you worry.

Hey Peter,
Bet you had fun last night, for one the truck isnt broken in yet. Another (& you know this one) order PSP full meal deal right away!! Those times you ran were a tick slower than mine when I first took it to PIR (no mods at the time) & if my memory serves me correct I hit like 14.2 14.1 around there. Oh ya you were there that night in your vette. My truck had like 3k miles @ the time so it was starting to loosen up. The track temp when I went was in the 80's though. We'll get toghter soon & go the track. Hey BTW I might hit the Pavalions tonight with the truck (last week I had it detailed on the exterior looks VERY shiney so I figured tonight would be a good night to take it). Call me if you think you can make it. If you dont have my tn E-mail me (soon since i am going shopping) & ill give it to you.

Jim,
Yeah, too bad it didn't work out for Firebird. I made 4 runs, but, I was teched at 7:00 and my last run was at 12:05. Spoke with alot of different drivers. It was so funny, when I'd lift the hood, people just came out of the wordwork. People were freakin out when they saw I didn't even have a plate on the truck and then when I told them it only had 250 miles, they really freaked. Best part of the night was when this guy pulled up in a Camaro, I could hear a blower whine, so went over and talked with him. He had put a Vortec blower on his V6 Camaro. He ran right after I did, I went to ask him how he did, he said he ran a 14.5 and he was very pleased, he asked how I did and I told him I was very dissapointed that I just ran a 14.3, you should have seen the look on his face. It was truly a Kodak moment! Most impressive of the night was watching a 96 Vette run an 11.9. There's hope for my Vette yet!
Congrats on your LS1 kill. That must have been a really neat feeling.
Definitely look forward to seeing you soon!
Oh, Friday ordered the Snuglid (no trim and carpet on the backside) and the Bedrug from Michigan Trailer Sales. One of my first posts was what kind of tonneau and carpet I should get and you had replied with a post about where you got yours.
