Big Poppa,

There is always something to be gained by taking each individual SVT for some dyno time.Your question is "is it worth it?"I would have to say that it is. I personally plan on taking my SVT to a dyno and have my SUPERCHIP reprogrammed. The only draw back is the cost of dyno time. But then again,If we could afford these SVT`s that shouldn`t be much of a problem....

Hello all..

I guess one more thing I am worried about getting a custom chip made is will they know about all the little tricks.. I do not know what software they will be using to burn the chip.. so I do not know what they will be able to modify.. Fuel curves and timing are easy.. but how about the timming being taken out after 100 mph ? And what about the mythical timing/cylinder cut during the shifts ? I still do not even know if this exsists.. I do not know how much of it was hot air.. but the guy at the shop was telling me he sees cars with chips in them that are running way out of tune.. He says you need to put it on a dyno and use a air/fuel meter to tune it.. It makes sense but, am I going to go through all this for 2 horsepower ?

Hmmm.. I guess I have more thinking to do..

Much thanks..

Cool

Get a chip, either one, you won't regret it. You'll see more that 2HP. Don't forget the filter either.

Post Custom chip worth the effort ?

Hello all.

This is a question for all the chip gurus.. I was thinking of having a custom chip burned for my 99 Lightning.. It would be done on a dyno.. My question is if it is worth it.. I know Sal and some of the other guys have uncovered some little tricks in the code that have made big differences in the performance.. I know each of our trucks have differences.. you can see this by the dyno numbers peole pulling with the same mods done.. I am just wondering if a generic 99 Lightning chip will cover the differences in the truck..

Big Poppa,

PSP's chip is under constant scrutiny and is revised as new features/traps/etc. are found. Changing is a matter of moments, no down time w/o the chip (this is very important, as once you go there, you'll never want to go back to stock).

Sal can also work with you to provide custom applications (i.e. N2O). I love my truck, but w/PSP's chip, and the improvements that have been made (and are ongoing) I also deeply in lust, as well. I think the cost of PSP's chip is reasonable and a custom dyno tune can get expensive in a hurry. They're also a pain to update if a)something goes wrong or b)something new is found.

I'm not knocking anyone who custom chips, by any means. But, having thought this thru and being among the first owners of the PSP chip I suggest that PSP has done and will continue to do an outstanding job.

Taking nothing from Superchips guys, at this point, having the most recent code from both sources, I'm pretty sure that PSP's code is much tighter and more highly refined. The shifts are firmer, the power band flatter and PSP has found some interesting little gotcha's that have been included in the code.

Just my .02 worth + another $1.98
