Cleaning Intercooler

I"m getting ready to change my whole air induction from the filter (THANKS CHICKENEARS FOR THE COOL-AID) to the blower so I thought I would clean my intercooler before hand. At 56K miles it had never been done....mainly due to my lack of mechanic ability but I took on the challenge yesterday. Took about 5 1/2 hours for me which felt is pretty good for the first time to do a project like that and I did it Rons way and took the whole thing apart. Latemodelracer came and helped out after I had it all broken down THANKS ALOT! But it was extremely bad...2 cans of acetone and 4 cans of brake cleaner and its looks pretty good now. This is not something I would want to do regularly though so I ordered the Razors edge oil seperator last night to hopefully fix this. The truck runs alot better now...I really didnt think it would make that much difference in it but it did. Anybody that hasnt done this I strongly recommend it...trust me if I can do it ANYBODY CAN! Now I can put on the cool-aid kit/ 90mm mass air/thunder pipe/ bbk throttle body/ and CnL plenum to go along with my 6lb lower and soon to come new tune!!

Deep down in the bowells of your intake.

Underneath the blower.
Absolute piece if cake to remove, clean and replace.
While you got it out, check / change your plugs.
Seal off ports just incase you drop something.

I wouldnt say it was "a peice of cake" but if my inept a** can do it, anyone can. BUT it aint gonna happen unless you have several socket extensions AND swivels! Those bolts against the firewall are a b*tch and it definately helps to have a second person help you lift the blower and intercooler out. Its alot heavier than I expected and you have to hold your mouth just right to get it out. Now having said that, it is definately worth doing, made a huge difference in my truck,,,,but mine also had 56K miles on it and this had never been done. looked really bad!

Try some Greased Lightning when you clean your IC parts. Used it on mine, worked great and looked like new when I was done. Took 3 or 4 applications with a cold brew per cleaning.

Well you done mate & you got results for your labour.
Piece of cake - that's what you were given arm muscles for, working on your 'L' and lifting stubbies to yours lips to quench your thirst.
Blower is lightweight - the battery is heavier.

I filled it back up to the mark on the reservior....not sure exactly how much it held but I'm sure someone else on here can tell you the capacity of it. I used a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/distilled h20 that I bought premixed and then put a quart of cool-ade (which is pretty much the same thing as water wetter if your not familiar with it) to top it off.
