Question New to this board. . . . w/QUESTIONS???

Hi everybody. I just discovered this message board recently, and what I've seen so far has been great.

I have a 99L that I bought used last Sept. It ROCKS! But after reading this board for a while, it made want to hop it up a little! I would like to know what air filter set-up and chip everybody likes. I mean, is there one specific brand or combination that generally works the best?

Also, I would like to know what the production number of my truck is (#???? of 4000 built). Can this be found on the VIN, or did the first owner receive documentation about the limited build number?

Thanks for the help. . . .

On the filter /chip combos, I'd say that any of the solutions will work. The superchip is what I have and it works great, but they charge you a lot more for reprogramming if you want to tweak it. On the filters, I have SAL's filter and its is of great quality. My only gripe is that the temperature sensor doesnt seat tightly so I will probably have to silicone it in or something. The other thing to keep in mind is that SAL's filters take FOREVER to make. It seems that things move on geologic time over there. Go with the Airraid if you want it soon or SAL's if you're willing to wait. (I was).

Thumbs up

Hi Neil, WELCOME!!!!!
If you have some spare time, use the search function at the top of the page. It has saved me alot of time using it to come up with answers about my truck and it seems to work pretty good.....

Good luck with your new baby, I am sure you will love it as much as every one else here loves theirs!!!

P.S. I am very happy with my Airaid setup but there are lots of opinions on that as well. You will see a few very good posts on that subject if/when you do the search on that subject. Regardless, I definitly agree wih Nathans post especially about the chip. Sal (PSP) seems to be very into Lightnings, but he is a small business run after his 9-5 day job....If you have the patience, his chip sounds like the way to go and re-burns sound alot cheaper than his competion.

Hope that helps some

I have Sals combo, worth the wait!! On the re-burns, he will send the most current program out if he develops a better one for only $5-10. Others charge $100. I am currently waitng to get a new re-burned since the gas around here in winter really sux & the detonation has gotten really bad, (I think I am just hearing it more since I know that it is there now), but crossing my fingers that it solves the problem. If it doesnt I think I will take my truck to a local tuner here that can work on it with a Dyno & custom make one (a chip) specifically for my truck.
