DOT Drag Tire Width?

I am going to be ordering some MT ET Street bias plys, but im not sure on what width to get. Should i do a 28x11.5x16 or a 28x12.5x16? I dont plan on many more mods, just a eaton port and possible meth/alky injection or a small shot (50 or 75). I want to make sure I have plenty of tire to hold down a minimum of a ported eaton on top of what I have in my sig.

I was going to go with a 10.5, but after seeing the tread width, they just dont seem wide enough. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Chris

DOT drag tires are measured differently than slicks. Dot size is the widest part of the tire (section) instead of the tread. The 11.5 DOT's are the same tread width as 10" slicks. The 12.5's will have about 11" tread width. IMO either will work at your power level.

you can go with the m&h cheater slick

they are 30" tall 14" wide i think the actual width is 12.5",,,on a 16" rim

not sure if the power level you run at can support these tall tires,,,,but if the track you run at is not always preped good,,,,these will help

i'd go with the 28x12.50 if I were you. that should support the ported eaton/50-75 shot. 30 is too tall for the kind of power you expect to be making IMO

11.5's will be plenty of tire. my hoosier QTPs are 11.5 and I kind of wish they didn't stick out quite so much b/c they sling a lot of gunk all over the truck when in the water box.

i think I will try the 11.50s. Should cut down on the weight a little over the 12.50s. Hopefully they will hold some nice hard (for my power level) launches. Cant wait to try them out.

How should I do a burnout on them?

it is very simple, but takes a few burnouts to do it right. first either have a spotter or turn your mirrors down so you can see the smoke rolling off tires. Leave it in drive. Back into water box, pull just out of the waterbox and spin them over about 1, maybe 2 rotations to get the whole tire wet (some people do this in the water box) Then I pull forward a foot or so to where it is still wet but not sloppy wet. Hold foot on brake, stomp gas, watch revs and let it shift up into second quickly. Don't let it rev up so quick that you hit the rev limiter though. Revs will drop when it hits second so you have to give it a lot more gas (quick and hard to keep it spinning) and mash the brake harder to keep from rolling. Keep revs up pretty high, like 4k+. Let the smoke fill the wheelwells and when it starts rolling out go ahead and let off brake and spin as you roll forward, then let of gas. Now you're ready to stage. Don't do a dry hop.
