Post cross drilled rotors

I have been talking to the guys. At Downs ford they have a dimpled rotors for the lightning. But i have no idea if this is the same as cross drilled rotor. I find the price kind of step. Do any one of you know where i can get my hands on a set. front and rear for the lightning. If you could give a number and the cost i would appreciat it.

You might want to call BAER. I was going to go with the cross-drill. What they say is, on a street rig the rotor's will crack after about 15-20k miles. So for street app's go with dimple or slot's. These will not crack like cross-drilled. www.baer.com

I'm a machinist by hobby and has a mill and rotary table. I tried to figure a pattern out on the fts but there are 41 slot and thats a prim # so nothing goes into it evenly to get the spacing right, so they have to be dimpled but the rears can be cross drilled for the street if a break in is followed ,its on the cat. for hawk brakes, the reason is that you need to get the grain structure more uniform [ cast iron has a very random pattern ] and by heating and cooling it does that, like packing your axles in dry ice same principal. But for normal street driving you dont NEED them done. They just look better. Stan

Exclamation

Forgot to say you have to do the break in BEFORE they can be cross drilled.

Not doubting what you are saying, but if they crack under normal street use, wouldnt that mean all those new 911's (Porsche) brakes crack?? Kinda wierd that Porsche would put brakes in their vehicles if thay crack after 15-20k miles?!?! Wonder if they warranty them.

Hi.
I was not going to answer this post since I posted about cross drilled rotors 1 month ago. I included the photo and the web site.

I have cross drilled rotors on all of my cars and have not had a problem. Yes I have heard stories about them cracking but most of the people that are telling these tales sell the dimpled or slotted style. I do like the slotted but have never cared much for the dimples ( Looks like you got lazy on the drill press). Basically, check out the facts and go for the look that you like. Because that is what it is "A Look" there is no real braking performance to be gained. It just looks cool (my opinion).
PS. I got my cross drilled rotors from Baer for my other two cars.

Thumbs down

Hey Yoda:
I have friend's with porsche(911/924T/928's)at 20-25k it's time for a major rebuild. The clutch, brake pads with rotor's ect. The price of owning a "sports car".

All I'm saying is that BAER is one of the top brake company's out here. You might want to talk to them, I have.

Baer is right down the street from where I work, I might stop by & take a "look-see" @ what they might have to offer for my truck.

When I mentioned that Porsches come with drilled rotors, I would think that if they craked an owner could sue them if case of a bad accident due to a flaw in the brakes. I know that they dont "crack" I have looked into them when I was considering some for my mustang.

I road race a mustang, used to have crossdrilled rotors, they looked really cool as the brake peddle thumpped, that crack at 120 was not what I had in mind. 1 race it was over, 93 miles. Just do you know the next time I went had standard rotors, they ran with the chacan(sp) in 193 miles no brake pads left, rotors cracked, oh well I went to willwood 4 pistons and 13" rotors all around. cant win for losing.
