He was running his truck up pretty high in the rpm's, which is why his motor blew most likely. The only reason the chip is to blame is because it allowed for the engine to rev that high.
This was obviously a home grown chip so you would not have to worry about this with Sal's or Superchips chip.
The sad thing to this all is that now that Ford dealership is under the impression that all chips will cause this.
