Question

Lightning Dammitt-
I know this is a L forum, but what's the deal with the new IMAX? I haven't heard of it before. Is it just an IMAX or normal movies, too? I get tired of the same old stuff here in CS and a quick trip to Houston might not be a bad idea.

In California (at least in all the jurisdictions I patrolled)you can, and I often did write citations in private parking lots open to the public. The majority of the citations were for offenses such as "exhibition of speed" or "reckless driving". The citing section is CVC 23103(b) which specifically addresses the operation of a motor vehicle in an off-street parking facility. (Made many arrests for DUI on those same lots, as well as citations for unlicensed drivers, etc.) The simple act of spinning your tires can also be cited under the Speed Contest section, 23109(c), which states it is unlawful to engage in any act which could be dscribed as an exhibition of speed. Most California judges agree that the act of "burning rubber" is an exhibition of speed. (hey, I didn't make the rules I just enforced them, and break a few myself now and then.........)

PFA:

I think you are right about the lot owners.

Skydive:

That's is actually what I thought... b4 I got caught. When I was standing there with him, I thought the worst tho...

MS:

There sure are a lot of cops that drive L's these days..... hmmmmmmm....

isa4325:

I guess I didn't think about the nuisance thing, or disturbing the peace.

Yes, there are movies in BCS, but no IMAX. the new Disney Fantasia 2000 is currently only available at IMAX theatres. TRUELY AWESOME.

Actually tho, it was the date with LightningChick that made it worth the the mileage....

Thanx all for the info on the burnout and my legal situation. Good thing that I didn't get cited!

Duck:

The IMAX is actually part of a 10-15 screen theatre complex. 1 IMAX and 10-15 regular theatres. Also a few bars and restaurants... all in one neat mall from an architectural viewpoint. Great place for a date/dinner.

I also took an interesting route to get there... Take 6 to Hempstead, and hook up with 290... About 1 mile after you get on 290, Exit FM359 towards Hempstead. This will take you thru a short trip thru Hempstead, and lead you thru some small towns called Pattison and Brookshire. What makes it a great trip is that 359 has three 5-10 mile straight as an arrow flat stretches. I used to go this way to Houston on a daily commute for about one year. Daily blasts around 80-100 MPH, (usually 80... I'm a chicken!)... never even a blip on the radar detector. On this last trip, I pegged and held the L to the 140 MPH mark! This road is great, because even at that speed, I only passed one car, (going the oposite way)...
VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC! Please no speeding flames... I just had to do 140 at least once in the L. Now it's drive like an old man time...

Concerning cops and Lightnings - what can I say? Most of us become cops so we can drive real fast and not get into trouble,,,,or at least I did..............and of course all the donuts you can eat was a pretty good argument too............

If a parking lot is open to public access, and posted for 21113 CVC, all vehicle code laws are enforcable on those posted lots.
(That is here in Calif)

All cites would be the same as on a roadway, reference the authority of 21113 CVC.

Lightning Dammitt-
Thanks for the info. I have traveled 359 many times in the past. I am originally from Navasota and have a friend in Monaville (four way stop on 359). I planned on taking the L there as soon as possible.

If you want another cool "driving road" closer to home try FM159. (It's the four way stop on the south end of Wellborn road; almost to Navasota). Take a right at the stop sign and have fun. It is a long, winding road that eventually connects w/ Hwy105. No cops and very little traffic. It is all cotton and corn fields. I figure if I can get my 91 Bronco (w/ 4" of lift) to 80mph (top speed) then my Lightning will really be fun.

Duck,

Forgot to mention... the IMAX theatre is a 6.5 story screen, with a 13,000 watt surround sound system. Can't wait to get one installed in the house! I wonder if I could fit it in my L?
