Post Roush Lowering kit questions

Hello all..

I have a question for all who have lowered their lighting with the Roush kit.. I have read about all the good things but, have not seen any negative comments.. With this kit installed was there any problem getting the alignment back within spec ? Did you encounter any clearance problems with the inside of the rim and lower a-arm ? and did you need to re-route any brake lines to avoid crimping ?

I appreciate any comment good or bad..

Much thanks

BP,

I should have the AIM rear drop shackels on My 99 this weekend. I wanted to level it out. The way the truck sits now it is high in the back...sure you've noticed this on your own. If I decide to lower it another 2" all that's needed are drop hangers, bump stops and possibly shock extenders for the rear. AIM sells all these parts seperately.
new coils up front and I should be in business if I want to get lower. I'll let you know what the ride is like with just the rear dropped 2". In curves the truck tends to dive to the front corner that is on the inside. This is sort of disconcerting and I feel that the 2" drop will almost negate this characteristic. My 93 lightning sat level and was extremly flat in the corners. At times I would swear that the rear of the truck was lower and that you could distinguish a distinct rear squat that felt a hell of a lot more stable than how the 99 feels with the rear as high as it is.

Let Me know if you proceeed with the Belltech or Rousch drop and how it affects load capacity and handling.

I don't expect any loss of load rating with just a 2" drop on the rear. I may go down to 4" is I decide to get the coil springs for the front drop. Someone has posted that the stock shocks work fine but I have heard that a full 2-4 inch drop would require new shocks because the piston stroke would be shortened...not sure about this point however...

Hello all..

I have the 2" shackle on the truck now.. Rides like factory.. I used a 2 degree shim aswell.. I doubt the pinion angle was changed to much but it is better safe than sorry..

Does the Roush kit include a shim to correct the angle ?

A friend of mine droped his truck with lowered A-arms and the shackle-hanger combo in the rear.. We had to take the bed off so we could cut the stock hangers off.. Wasn't that bad.. but would like to avoid that if possible..

Much thanks..

TampaBayLightning, BABolt did the Roush Lowering kit minus the shock.
This is likely what I will do next year, as the spring rates are close enough and I don't need to waste money on shocks.

I would have to disagree about using just coils up front.I did this in my 98 Ford.It turns the wheels up in to the wheels well at an angle not strait.I also notice a clunk here and there. On a reg f150 not a big deal.On a lightning it could very easy ruin how the lightning performs.I good 2-4 kit works nice at a fraction of the roush lowering kit.Shackles and hangers should be no more than $129. this part is the same no matter who you go with it basically works the same .Bell tech is my favorite.Up front it is definatly wotrh the money to do it right! I would not use just coils,You need to bring the spindle or whatever strait.By the way,What is used up front?basically parts should not exceed $400 if you shop around .Another tip is instead of trying to chisil the hanger rivits off it is so much easier to go to a local muffler shop and have the heads melted off with a torch off and then just tap them out with a hammer. No need to take off bed just rear wheels on the lift!

Cool

I had the complete Roush suspension installed. The front end has to be realigned after installation. Other than that, it is a straight swap out.

Poppa:

I'm curious too. This will be my next major project. I forgot who it was that did the Roush kit minus the shocks.

Interested to find out the details.

Hello all...

Ok.. As far as I know the only options for lowering the front of the 97-99 F-150 is springs or A-arms.. no one makes a spindle for it that I know of.. and as for the back.. cutting those hangers off is a BITA.. there is no room to work under the without banging into somthing... We were able to cut the heads off the rivits.. but we did not have room to tap them out.. And as for using a torch.. I get a little worried about using torches that close to the gas tank. : )

No one has commented about the alignment after lowering.. were camber bolts needed to get the truck back into spec ?

Big Poppa, Mike here.
I have been wanting to lower the rear 2" with the shackle, however have not had any luck finding the Belltech . Do you , or anyone else have a source, preferably Online.
Thanks, Mike

Cool

Ok, Not an expert here but as for the alignment. Mine had no problem, and Sixpipes did mention that all that was needed was an alignment. Any Ford dealer should be able to do it, but I would go to a Roush dealer just to be on the safe side. They should know the specs and such for it.

As for the Camber ya got me but I will check with a buddy at a local Roush dealership for ya. Might take me a day or two though. Not sure how fast he will respond.

Has anyone talked with Roger from the F150 Online Store about the shackles and such?? Might be a great place to start. He will give you the info if he has it and if he does not he will help you get it.

Just my thoughts...
