Post Did I get a good deal on 2000 Lightning?

I shopped around last year for a 1999.5 L when they were just arriving at the dealers. The best I could do was about $400 under list. I started shopping in 12/99 for a 2000 L. and ended up ordering one for under $28,000 before tax. This seems too good to be true. Is anyone else running into this price?

Tom,
Sounds like a heck of a deal. Today I ordered a 2000 L for 30,000 after checking with all four dealers in minnesota (list plus) found dealer 150 miles away in wisconsin. You'll love it!!

Well I’ll go out on a limb here and say you got a fair deal for where you live. If you lived down south where everyone tries to out do each other’s trucks that would have been a great deal, check this out.

When I went to the SVT Ford dealership this is how they treated me, $29,995 plus $1000 in options quote “you don’t like it leave ‘I never said a word’”, you get a red one, “you don’t like it leave”, you’ll use ford financing and no other “don’t like it leave”! Thank GOD I paid cash, this pissed them off to no end, then the 4 hours of you must get extended warranty, under coating, serialized windows, and on and on.

Oh ya I just returned from Japan and I was using rental cars until the Bolt arrived, only about 8 weeks late!

You do good real good

I think I rank up there as having paid the most $4k over sticker. I also pretty much bought all the 'other' options under the sun. Here's a list. I also did not wait for my Lightning, it was at the dealership in Seatle, and I was on my way to Vancouver, then back to Anchorage. It got there 5 days before it snowed (3weeks later)

Options - Cost - Reasoning
Addtnl Dealer Markup - $4000 - well, got a free SVT tape
Bed Liner - $700 - Didn't want to scratch the bed
100k mile warantee - $2750 - supercharger cost = $3k new engine?
paint/interior protection - $800? - Incase of fade, and for insurance (litigation)
Tune-up service 50k miles - $1550 - litigation, they mess up, its on them
underliner - $400 - resale
1200 lb. Temporary moose hood ornament - Free - New life experience

Its all transferrable, Live a little, about $40k.

Yea, You got a good deal-if they deliver. I paid sticker in Cheyenne and they hosed me on the trade. In Loveland (5 miles South of me) they were charging 5K over sticker-and got it. The problem is that the Front Range of Colorado is a boom town-lots of cash flowing around. Hold them to the deal.

Hi TomG,
I'd say you got a good deal. I will be paying MSRP. No more, no less, no options. I don't know about you, but I'm getting anxious for the VVRRUUMM VVRRUUMM!!

MSRP for me too. If you can get it, that's a great deal.

Tom,
Got confirmation today that my Red 2000 is to be delivered the week of 13 March. I paid $27,834. This price should reflect dealer's cost plus $500. Based on the post of most of the people, excluding those connected to Ford, you have gotten a much better than average deal. Assume we should consider ourselves fortunate.

Wonder how to get a decent pricing in Dallas TX? Two dealer quotes have both come in at $31,375. Both delears say this is the current MSRP, eventhough Edmunds showed MSRP at $30,710 with a dealer cost of $26,568.

Ceejay,
Welcome aboard, your dealer added the $665 destination charge to the $30,710 to get $31,375 MSRP...

The MSRP I was given by several dealers was $31,375. A couple of dealers confirmed a dealer invoice price after destination and delivery ($665) of $27,374. My final price after playing one dealer against another was $27,700. Another offered me one for $28,800, and the next lowest was $28,175. This was in mid january. I checked with about 8 dealers total in the NE Ohio area.

Unfortunatley the L's are VERY popular in Dallas. Lee Jarmon had a waiting list of over 40 people last year. I bought at $25 below MSRP and am glad to have it. In some parts of the state and country the L's are marked up $3000-$5000 over sticker. Jarmon has used 99 l with 15000 miles that is selling for 29,000 ( They have already taken a deposit ) Why would they sell a new one for less ?

Good Luck

Doug

I take that back, it is not unfortunate that 1999 L with high miles held its value so well, it's GREAT. Think about it the 99 sold for under 30 MSRP and the dealer is selling for 29 now. I have never bought a vehicle that help value so well and was so much fun to drive.
