With all the 6lb Blown Motors we get ever year around this time, how appropriate hu
If you remember when I ran the stock motor I also ran a lower/upper combo so I could pull boost each and every winter

So many opinions but no real information!
A tune usualy leans the A/f a bit and adds timing to make power. At stock timing of 11deg is way less that a tuner wouls set it up at.
Also some say that the A/F will be messed. I beleave you are incorrect due too thease facts. I dynoed my 01L with and with out a 5lb pylley and no tune. A/f was great on bouth combinations. When I added a custom tune the A/F was slightly leaner and timing was increased to 17deg.
For some who wants to move slowly a pulley first then an tune is a better choice than the other way around.

I don't think so unless they don't mind paying for a new motor. Here's a fact for you.... you'll max your MAF out with a 6 lb pulley and thus need a MAF extender and remapped MAF voltage which is only achieved by a new tune. It's folks like this that make buying a used performance vehicle a very scary proposition.

Are you for real? I know I am not a pro when I comes to the SVTL's, as I am new to them, but I have bean racing and building saince I was 10, you go ahead and put your 5lb or 6lb pulley on and don't get a tune, you go ahead and take that combo to the strip, and you go ahead and put it on a tralier, or tow truck and take it back to your shop and spend the cash to rebuild your blown up motor.
Yes a tune may lean it out, and advance the timing, but a stock computer is not going to be able to compensate for all that extra air being forced into you motor under WOT, and you WILL blow it!
Ask anyone in here, ask anyone with any kind of real experiance, and help spred the word, if you mod it, tune it.

I put over 30K on my truck with a 5 lp, NGK tr6s, air filter, and FTVB. It was dynoed at each mod to ensure it was at a safe A/F.
It went down the track over 100 times with all or portions of this setup. It even won the truck class at NMRA in Bradenton with this set up. It never broke never burned a plug and went 12.99 in the 1/4.
The key to any modding is to keep the tune safe.
The fun did start after I got the predator and added some timing.

To those making blanket statements with no data, wideband sensors can be had for cheap these days (sometimes less than one trip to the dyno). They are good to have once you start making more power, chip/tune or not.
You may not "need" a tune for a 6# pulley, but you will not perform as well as with a good tune. About a half second will be left on the table. I also would think the Maf would peg at high rpm's in cold temps and the stock tables will not be adequate.
In warm temps, and if peak performance is not the goal, the 6#er will give a great seat of pants increase. Make sure to run colder plugs.
