I have seen them here in Canada at Toys'R'Us. They had about 10 on the shelf. Honestly you would be better off buying a red one and painting it black. The grills, side steps, and if memory serves, the rear plastic above the bumper, are all chromed. Not exactly what I have seen on any Lightning photos.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you will be sorely disappointed after the wait.

Yes he is correct.They are all chromed out.They are available,Red looks real ,black looks neat too.You can see a black one on e bay look under SVT

 

While my suppliers, Hobby Distributors, haven't released them to me yet, black is out there.

In any case, I would strongly recommend the following:

Disassemble the model, it's very easy, go to your local auto parts store and get a big jug of Wesley's Whitewall cleaner. Pour that in a bucket full strength, and put the body in the bucket overnight. That will soften/remove the paint to the point where you can sponge or scrub it off to bare metal.
Use a good brand of paint, Testors for example, shoot a coat of primer on first and then your color coat. That way, you can do a white, a black or a silver or whatever you wish.

Thanx all. I have seen pictures of the black and new it came w/ the chrome so I was planning on painting the grill etc. So black is out there huh? Just not in "Hobby" stores,at least thats what I'm guessing. I'm off to check to 2 local Toys r Us and see what they might have,at this point I'll take a red one and paint the whole thing. Bill,thanx for the striping ideas,I have the paint from doing the Revell model so now all I need is the Burrago.

How about this,
**ALL** of the grilles and plastic parts come off.bburago does an incredible job of detail.Very easily you could buy a red and a black and swap all the chrome pieces.Or buy three and have both a red and a black like factory and then one red "custom chromie">

 

Well I just got back from "We Be Toys n' Sh#t" and they didn't have sh#t! Neither did Wal-Mart or Target. This little diecast is getting about as illusive as the 99 Brochure. I may end up biding on e-bay for both. YIKES! I didn't just say that? I maybe going overboard on my quest for eveything Lightning. Uh oh.

I ordered from there TOO! They emailed me the same day I ordered and told me that they were on BACKorder and that it would here in 2-4 weeks. That was a little over a month ago. Any other ideas? How 'bout the brochures,any ideas on those? E-bay here I come!

Unfortunatly im out of answers.What i would like to know is i see the same people over and over on ebay selling numerous lightning brochures.Now i know where they all go when i go into my dealership and there all gone!It is kinda selfish.I would think dealerships would at least hold onto enough so actual buyers could get some.Try calling svt @1800 ford svt With a little attitude they could probally help.They came through for me after numerous phone calls.Finally i said that" i spent $30 grand and i cant even get a brochure!!"So far i have 1 of everything except the 2000 brochure.

 

Yeah,calling SVT has occured to me(I've called before but to no avail) I will be copping a serious attitude tomorrow. I intend on WRITING to them as well.I'm not sure if anyone has tried this tactic so I'll give it a try. So the same guy's are selling all the brochures eh? WTF is up w/ that!

I have a question and it is in your area of expertise. I ordered a Burrago Diecast Lightning(black) in early Jan. from a local dealer(sorry,I figured it would be quicker),I had read they were to be available in Jan,now the dealer is claiming that the truck won't be released until late spring! You being in the know,I am asking if this truely is the case? And if so do you have a ballpark release date?
