Modding truck and tuning

I plan on putting a JLP ram air kit, JLP 6# lower crank pulley, and a magnaflow catback on my 2002 lightning.

It will probably be a few weeks, maybe even a month before I will be able to go and have it tuned. Is it ok to drive with those mods without a custom tune from the dyno shop?

C'mon dude!! I dont know of anyone on this board that has the willpower to stay out of the boost! Including myself,I just couldn't do it!!

I would not recommend you do that until you have a tune to go with it, your just asking for trouble when you hammer it. Dont get impatient and wait till ya get that tune!!

Patience is a money saver, in this case. Drive it stock until you're ready to install your mods then tune it right after, especially the ones that produce more boost. If it was only a day or two away, yeah staying out of the boost, but there's always this tempting you to step on it and then....KABOOM!!!!....$6000

Well,

The local shop here wants $575 for a minimum 2 hour tune. Sounds kind of pricey if you ask me. If I get one of these SCT Tuners, will whatever vendor I get it from send it to me with a program already installed for a truck with my modifications? I just want to be able to drive the truck with my mods and not have to worry about blowing it up. Is there a vendor out there that does this kind of thing?

Since you're buying the mod's at JLP, talk to him. He can hook you up with a mild tune for your truck, until you get the dyno. After the dyno he can tweek the tune to get you the best performance!
If you're deadset on the SCT, JJ at woodbine performance sell's them and he's had some good result's.http://www.woodbinemotorsports.com/

On average....most dyno's (for dyno tuning) will run you about $200 for the 1st hour and $100-150 for each additional hour.

DEFINATELY get a dyno tune before you start driving with those mods. Why? Because....staying off the "loud pedal" is almost impossible.

Wait until you can get the tune before you put your mods on, $600.00 is nothing compared to the price it could oust if you mod a month befor tune. jmo
