Question Bumper Fit Survey Question

Some of you may have read my post last night regarding the unfortunate meeting of my L and a 60 pound German Shephard. I am astounded at the little damage seemingly done for such a hard impact. I thought of all of you who had lost your driving light glass covers. Here mine was hanging, and bouncing around (I drove about 5 miles before stopping to survey the damage at a gas station), and neither the glass nor the bulb were broken even though the innards had separated from the main housing. To look at the bumper the only thing that would give a clue as to damage would be the fact that the bumper sheared from the attachment bolt just forward of the front tire. My question is this: If you measure the distance from the aft, bottom end of the front bumper to the front tire on each side, how much of a difference, if any do you have? My right side (where I took the impact) is two inches closer to the tire. To the eye, the bumper seems totally aligned in front, and the measurement from the top edge of each side to the slit in the headlight housing is exactly the same on both sides. I'm curious as to how much of the discrepancy was caused by the collision, and how much is just a fit issue. I think back of the horrible fit of my Pontiac T/A and have to wonder.

Cool

Skydive69 -

The only thing controling this distance is the single strut on each end of the bumper. There is, however, a piece of metal channel that supports the lower bumper assembley and runs from one end to the other. As you can see in the attached photo, there are eight attachment points for the lower bumper (four on each beam - above the openings on the frame). These hold the bumper on straight which explains why it still looks good from the from. It might be that the impact actually twisted the metal bumper support piece. You should be able to reposition it without taking the bumper completely off (which is a real pain) and then attach the inside strut.

Question

Is there a metal bumper under the urethane cover on the 99.5 Lightning. If so, is it just a regular 1999+up F150 bumper?

Say sixpipes, did you ever notice the airbag sensors while you were crawling around down there? While I was at the dealership I was asking about them and they couldn't tell me where it was at. Them some salesman, apparently a very naive one, said, "Hey did you hit a moose?" "Ever heard of bigfoot?" "YOU HIT BIGFOOT?!" "No, I hit a moose, have you everheard of bigfoot though?" Sorry, had to let that one out. And all the other gawkers started to laugh... Atleast I didn't smack the dumba$$

Hey Tundra. I'm not sixpipes but do know the answer so I hope I'm not offending anyone by jumping in here. The airbag sensors were placed into the main airbag 'brain' for 99. The entire module is bolted to the floorpan at the front firewall end of the tunnel, right behind the black plastic cover for the heater ductwork where the dash and floorboard meet. It's about the size of 3 CD's stacked...

[oops -- A wee bit of clarification is in order...make that 3 CD _CASES_ stacked.]
Hope this helps...
