Red face Insurance rate shocker

Folks, FYI, Just received my insurance bill for the next six months. The premium on my Lightning is up 75% (yes, I said 75 percent) over the last 6 months. Looks like the insurance companies are now distinguishing the Lightning from the regular F150.
I haven't called my agent yet to discuss but I did notice that they changed the "symbol" from an 06 to a 14. I think this symbol represents cost of repair or risk.
You should know that I have no accidents, tickets or other claims, nor does my wife. I am 45 years old, and carry a $1000 deductible . In the grand scheme, this isn't a lot of money to me(an increase from $400/year to $700/year), but some of you younger folks may be in for a hard swallow. By the way, my insurer is State Auto of Ohio.
Have others seen this, or is it just me??

I asked the insurance guy if he new what a ford lightning was, he said he never heard of it, then proceeds to ask the right questions.
1. What kind of vehicle?
I say: 99 Ford F150, single cab, 2wd
2. Can you tell me the VIN?
I say sure , blah blah blah 18 times
3.he says great you have to pay 172 a month w/ a $500 deductable

I also have to have SR-22 ins also, but thats on my 66 chevy that is insured through the same guy, but since I have two vehicles, I can suspend one policy, and drive the other and still get the multi-car discount. Gotta love them loop holes. being 21 and non-female still hurts though and I can't change that.

Just before I bought the truck I called my ins agent to get a price est. of they had a hard time findin' the SVTF150 to give me a quote since I had no vin to go buy. It is a little higher than the standard F150 but it sure was cheaper than the Cobra!

Anybody be willing to borrow me a vin for a 99 Lightning. I would like to check what my insurance price will be if I buy a 2000.

If not I'll just find out after I buy one.

My e-mail is PaceCar18@aol.com

Welcome fellow member from Cincy Nice to see a local on the board finally...

I have state farm, the first time I called they didn't have the L in the books yet, but this was when they were first coming out, so she quoted me on vehicle price or some BS like that at 980 a year (This is the max they will chrage if the truck comes in with the worst rating). Once my L finally came and I called state farm back, lightning was a choice in her computer, and my policy ended up being 920 a year.

I'm 28, no tickets, no duis, one small claim in the last five years.

This is 100/300 insurance with a 250 dect.

This in my mind is still high but the cheapest I could find.

Brad

Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown. 99 Lightning, the best of both worlds!

Lightbulb

I went up to my local State Farm agent last month, to pay my premium and she looked up the Lightning.
You guys that have State Farm, grab your a$$ and bend over, cause our days as a regular F-150 owner are over....
I think it was in the same class as Camero, Firebird and the Vette.

When I insured my lightning I paid 220 for 6 months. Then they found out it was a lightning and I had to pay 60 dollars more for 6 months. It must be a different classification than a corvette cause I am paying 400 for six months on that. My rates are cheap though because I live on a farm and insure 14 vehicles with full coverage. At least the combine is cheaper than the lightning!

I'm not sure if my rates are going to go up, but when I traded my '97 F-150 4x4 in on the lightning, my rates actually went DOWN. Seems that 4x4s are expensive to insure b/c of the additional mechanical complexity and the damage they do to little cars when they run them over.

I tried to go with State Farm, but when I walked in the saw my sign, they started laughing and could even stop long enough to leave through the front door. All I wanted was SR-22 insurance. So I went to Allstate
