Question Blower or crank pulley

Im am planning to install a pulley within the next 2 weeks. Need some info. Whats better a blower or crank pulley? I know Auto Specialities and Downs Ford has pulleys for the blower but who makes the crank pulley? If anyone has either, please let me know your opinions or performance gains. Thanks.

Thumbs down

Don't even consider a blower pulley. You run great risk of damaging the blower, and it is not rebuildable. Go with the crank pulley.

2000 silver SVT Lightning on order (the lawnmower will have to go).

Caka:
If you look at NLOC board, under 2nd Gen. "pulley change by hotdog". I'm sure you will go for the wait on the Down's crank pulley.

Cool

Caka,
I installed the ASP pulley on my L before Hotdog did. I had no trouble at all putting it on. I can understand after reading some of the post about ruining the blower by changing the pulley. I would have had my doubts about changing it also. Did not have that option because no one else had done it. The Pontiacs have been doing it for years with no problems. I like mine. Just my .02.

How much increase did you see on the stock gauge? As best as you can tell.
I see you are in Houston, what area do you live / work, E, W, S, N. I am on the West side around Beltway 8 and I 10.

I agree with Jerrod Gross the Grand prix people have been changing their Eaton press fit blower pulleys for the last 3 years with very good success. Check out their web site: http://www.grandprix.net/ They have a special pulley puller from ASP just for the Eaton SC. On the GP the pulley replacement has been a great bang for the buck replacement for ~$100 they consistently see gains of 25hp on a 3.8l V6 with no intercooler. I think we might do better.

Question

Checked out the Pontiac site. They offer the blower pulley for $89, but the pulley puller is another $165. They also offer the Magnuson Nose Drive with keyed interchangeable pulley for $279. For the relatively small amount additional I would be inclined to go with the Magnuson unit, provided it fit our blower, thus avoiding the hassle and risk of messing with the press fit pulley. But I'm wondering if this would result in more gain than changing the crank pulley? What do crank pulleys cost, and what, if any, are the risks involved in changing them?

Jerrod,

Do you know about MTI? It is a pretty good performance shop 1 blk S of Westheimer on Dairy Ashford (on the left going S.). It is within sight of the West Side Command Substation for the HPD. They sell high octane unleaded fuel, N2O, and parts and upgrade services.

I'm not certain, but I make have met you there once.

I live on the SW side south and west of Eldridge and West Bellfort. Email me offline if you'd like to come by and see my toys.

Andre,

You don't need an invite to come by the house, you are always welcome.

As I recall, I gave you a rough time on your birthday because you went to C & H Steakhouse and didn't come by to see me. You had to drive right by my subdivision to get there.

So there, nyah!

Getting back to blower pulley questions ...
=-)

How much does the Downs pulley weigh? I had heard a rumor that there is a 14 lb difference in rotational weight. Is that true?
