Dyno on 02-26
Yoda...Let's see now..we both ran 13.54,we posted on this topic at the same time,I won't be suprised if our trucks dyno the same...
BTW.. I remember seeing something about Lightnings having trouble on the dyno because they would downshift on pulls,or something along those lines. You might start a topic about the best way to run on the dyno, unless you already did,if so disregd.
Thanks again,Jim W.

Hey guys, want to mention that we will be joined by a Cobra owner named Peter. Talked with Dean from SVC today to see if he will have the "L" he has been working on with us this week. He said he is waiting for a chip to be burned for it, not sure if it will be there. But he mentioned he knew a cobra owner that might be interested & would give the guy a call. Not ten min's later received a call from the cobra owner who said he would love to join us.
Some possible bad news though, didnt talk to Greg today but he called & left a message to call him. When I called he had just left for the day. When I asked what it might be in regards to the guy mentioned that he (the Dyno operator) had made plans this Sat, well I said that Greg had OK'ed it with me yesturday & that we have 10 people showing up for it, with 1 driving from Sedona & another driving up from Tucson (well, clearing my throat not really, but wanted to make them seem like we HAD to do it this weekend) he said he will see what they can do. I'm not too worried about it because Greg said that we were in this weekend. I mentioned that there is no way we can do it any other time. So I wanted to give you guys a heads up on this. In reality it really is the only weekend, Peter will be gone next week, & the following week ADP has an engagment & wont be available. So its this weekend or not for another 3-4 weeks. Sorry to write this, was going to wait until tomorrow to make absolutely sure on it, but thought I would mention it.
BTW where are we meeting for breakfast?? Throw some ideas out. ADP sent me a list so we need some ideas from people that live out there (Joel) on a good close to eat place.
some places: IHOP, USA Egg, Great Egg, Waffel House.......

I'm not sure I'm interested if the "second/third string" dyno guy is running the show. The whole point of this is to get good quality data and talk to someone who knows what the results mean. I've called ADS three times on Monday to get info on the dyno they use. It's manufactured by Mustang Dynamometer ( http://www.mustangdyne.com/ ). When I talked to the guy who answered the phone and asked how it compares to the DynoJet he said he didn't know and he put me on hold to talk to Greg directly. Greg was kind of short with me about the subject except to say "that in the professional world, DynoJet is called 'dyno joke'". He finally confirmed that the main difference was that it uses an eddy current brake with automated feedback so that the dyno pull could be longer. (A longer duration pull will minimize the rotational inertia effects that need to be accounted for in calculating horsepower.) The EC brake can measure the torque directly. So I did more research on the net, found Mustang Dynamometer’s website (noted above), called ADS back and asked the phone guy which model number dyno they had and if they had the MD7000 control system. His reply after a long pause was "we have a mustang dyno and we use the software that came with it". Obviously not everyone there knows what's going on, but I'm not interested in just bolting my baby down, then have someone push a button and say: "Here's your data. Not sure what it means but those numbers are pretty good." Yoda, let us know.
As far as breakfast goes, I have emails out asking for suggestions and I’ll post as soon as I get a reply.

For breakfast, two recommended options that are close to ADS are:
Perkins (North East side of Chandler Blvd and I-10
Cracker Barrel (good biscuits and gray) North West of Chandler Blvd and I-10

O.K. were are in for sure on Sat. Crackle Barrel sounds excellent! Meet there @ 7:00??
Hey Joel, ADS was recommened by TurboRx (thats all they use) & by SVC. When I spoke with Greg initaily he explained that they have a guy that runs it (dyno) & is very good @ going over the data and interpreting the results. I'm sure that he will be there. Im not sure if there are better Dyno's out there but it was explained that this seemed to be the most accurate. Did you find a better one?

Okay, 7:00am at the Barrel.
Yoda, although before this event I had never heard of the Mustang Dyno (MD), I was not suggesting it was an inferior product. The benefits of the eddy current brake method are very intriguing. I’m no expert in the dyno world, in fact I’ve never had a vehicle tested on one before. However, none of my race car buddies have any experience on anything but the DynoJet product. They too believe that there are high merits to the MD. Since the data will be different I just wanted to make sure we have someone knowledgeable to explain it. That’s the reason you rightfully choose this place……. right?
You stated: "When I spoke with Greg initially he explained that they have a guy that runs it (dyno) & is very good @ going over the data interpreting the results. I'm sure that he will be there." Does this mean that you talked to Greg again today (Wednesday) and he confirmed that he and/or the ‘dyno guy’ will be there Saturday, or is this just your expectation? Let me know if you haven’t confirmed this and I’ll call Greg tomorrow and find out for sure.
Thanks, and we’ll see you all 7:00am on Saturday.

JoeLightning, yes I did call & confirm with him today about Sat. No, didnt ask him who will be there, (I know Greg will be though) so I will call tomorrow & ask him if his Dyno operator (Dyno sheet "reader")will be there. Who knows Greg may be the one who can interpret the stuff. The other guy might just be the grunt (sorry hope no-one takes offense) who sits in the truck & pushes the gas. Yes of course that is why I cose this place (I choose nothing but the BEST
) Like I said just going off what was recommended from other high performance shops I have dealt with. Im sure we will get more than our monies worth!
I like you have never even seen a dyno, so I have NO knowledge of what the "best" type is. But I will call to verfy that an "expert" will be there to read the graphs for us. Will tell him that we are using these results to have our vehicles "tuned" for better performance with our chips.
Also this will be a great B-day (30th on Fri) present for me!
BTW we are having a 97 Cobra owner named Pete join us for breakfast. He is hoping to pull 450-500 rwhp with his built up sc engine. He runs @ Firebird best time he said was mid 12's with a traction limited top speed of like 113-115mph, DAMN!!!!! He hasnt beefied up the rear end yet so hasnt run it with slicks since he put in his new SHM motor.

Hey JoeLightning, ya Greg is the man (actually he and the other guy that will be there) can read back the results. Cant wait to meet you all. ADP did you want to meet somewhere or are you just going to take I17 all the way down to Cracker Barrel? That would probably be you fastest route.
