Just a thought. Looking for input

In the very early stages of gen2 it was hard for truck to get in the 12's then came upper pulleys hard to put on and then came lower pulleys, much easier to install and reach 12's.... Ok now you have the Idea, Just a few years ago we were all watching Sal with gobs of Nitros going into the 10's but far from every pass, very few passes. So now every one is in the 10's except me LOL... What mods made it so easy for everone to get there. Heads, cam tuning ???? Huh... V has twenty something passes in a row in the 10's. It can't be because he is a nice guy (which he is,, my friend).....

PEacE..................

Heads and cams on top of a ported Eaton and moderate pulley combo will net some decent ET/MPH. Our exhaust ports on the heads are a real restriction. Cams/heads will typically get another 40-50HP out of the motor.

Right now my truck is at ~ 420-440 RWHP. If the magic Christmas Fairy sees to it that there's an additional $2k to invest in heads and cams, that's the route I'm going. I may be pushing near 500 w/ that combo, but the reduced stress on the bottom end from better flowing heads will hopefully keep the truck together for another few seasons

W/o nitrous, 10's can be had with heads/cams, full exhaust, ported eaton, ~16 #'s of boost, and ESPECIALLY a stall and good grip.

It all costs money - how fast do you want to go?

I'd like to see some consistant low 12's with a possible dip into the 11's on the right day. I don't have all the cash for stall, etc, but hopefully heads/cams and the right tune will do it.

Now this not all the way accurate. One truck has just ran into the 10s, I think? ( 10.9X ) with a ported blower and the other mods you listed. 10s on a port is no easy task and is just about rare. JJ has Buffords L to a 11.0 with that set up.
A Magnum or a Port with Nitrous would be needed to run 10s consistantly. Or just slap on KB, Wipple or better yet a TURBO.

Lets not overlook tuning! For the guys that have been around since the begining...remember how much we went through. MAF upgrades, advaces in tuning software, and just learning what these trucks like. Remember how many trucks blew motors with stock, 2, and 4lbs of boost? So many that (IMO) these trucks got a rep as having a weak bottom end. Now plenty of people are running 450-500+ hp on stock bottom ends with much success. I think what made it "Easy" to run tens now, is a combination of our tuners having mastered what these trucks want, better software, and readily available head/cam set ups. Also, the whole "built motor program" has been stepped up to a whole new level that is being constantly improved apon. I think it has been a massive learning process, helped greatly by these boards, and the dedication of the people that love these trucks!

Great facts Whip... im running 500hp 600tq stock bottom end with a ported.. i have stage 2 crower cams and stock heads.. Sal has my truck tuned so nice that ive since had a few races on the street and the strip and i usually beat the crap outta my truck and it doesnt puff not one bit of smoke either, not even at startup.. no taps no knocks nothing.. it has very much to do with your tune... i forgot to mention thats a street tune on pump gas.. i have many other mods also.. and just not long ago i was embarrassing an SRT-10 Ram on the highway at 135mph.. and the truck just wanted to keep on going for more... god i love my truck!!!!

Port jobs and after market power adders have evolved, and are on a great # of trucks. Also the new tuning software allows much more aggressive tuning as the Maf and computer maintain control. Previously it was necessary to tune around a pegged maf which wasmore risky and less efficient.

i think more and more trucks are dipping into the tens because of two things

power and traction, mainly the traction as of late
