Oil Tested
When I changed my oil the first time I sent the oil in to be tested @ Blackstone Laboratories all looked good but the
oil showed up as Motorcraft 15w40 the book says to use 5w30 so that was what I put in it. I was wondering if any one else has had their oil tested and what weight it
showed up as? I wonder if the 15w40 would be better because of all the heat. Maybe Sal has opinion on this.

This question of oil weight is very interesting and I am suprised no one has replyed. I live in Houston and 5W35 seems like a very whimpy oil to run that in the summer would have the consistancy of water.
In my 93 lightning I ran 20W50 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter, synthetic. I sold it with 152,000 miles on it and it ran just like new and burned no oil, at least not enought to require adding, between changes.
I have talked with both SVT and Mobil One and they both spout the same line, "closer tolorances". I really find that hard to believe, closer tolerances?. On what, the mains, the rods, the lifters. How much closer could it be? Maybe it's in the blower section. I don't think I will run that light oil in the summer here. At least I will move up to 10W40.

If you run it out of spec (manual says 5w-30) and it fails, it's your problem. If you follow the manual and it fails it's Ford's problem. You can put in whatever you want, just need to decide who'll foot the bill.
