Giving the chips a rest for a while
Howdy all,
I took my Superchip out today because I have been running it in the stock position for months now and it still pings. Anyway, I have a return auth. from Superchips so I'll probably send it back and get the latest upgrade.
I also have one of the first Hypertech chips still in the box. I let them use my truck as a mule for testing and got a free chip out of it. I ran the Hypertech for a while before I got my Superchip.
The Superchip never really pinged that much in the stock position except for high speed punches, especially a very fast tip-in or downshift. Just thought I would give the motor and trans. a rest for a while since I still have Sal's filter.
Sal's filter is the best thing you could do to these trucks...it is so easy and inexpensive and yet doesn't cause all the problems that chips sometimes do. I guess I just don't like the truck running on the ragged edge all the time since I drive the truck everyday in all types of temps. and weather.
Sorry so long, just hadn't posted in a while.
Later,
Collin

Collin:
It has to be another issue other than the Superchip - especially in that you have pinging in stock position. It must be a fuel issue. I have almost 1000 miles on my daily driver Superchip, and have yet to experience the first ping. It has never been removed from performance mode. When I had it factory installed, they warned me against using certain brands of fuel, for example Citgo (at least locally here in Orlando). One recommended was Mobil. I run Mobil 93 octane, and again no pings.

I'd have to agree with Sandy. I was running Amoco clear ultra 93 since I always have had good results but when I got Sal's chip I had some mild pinging in performance mode. I switched to Texaco 93 and no more ping. Sounds like Texaco, Mobil and Chevron (use it in my boat with no detonation) here in Central Florida are good bets.
