Dyno Numbers Part Deux
Dyno Numbers Part Deux
For the record I am a true believer that Dyno numbers mean absolutely nothing, unless you are trying to feed the ego (not that any of us have an ego)
Track times and seat of the pants oooooohhhh yaaaaahhhhh is where I measure.
I was off having fun at a Wedding in Key West (no not mine) as my new '99 sat at Mustang Motorsports in Fort Myers waiting the famous Willie Figueroa tune this past weekend. I had spoken to Kurt at length about Willie and suggested he come down to solve his problem.
So my whole long winded story leads to this - as cheap as I am I paid an extra $125 for a baseline, stock (yes even the *****y stock air filter) Dyno. Same day, same method (other than no a/f due to stock). Here's what happend:
Stock '99 Dyno results - out of the gate 3000 rpms I am steady at 400 rwtorque numbers slowly dipping to 349 at 5100 rpm. At the same time out of the gate 3000 rpms I am climbing from 300 rwhp to 338.9 at 5100 rpm. That's a stock '99 for you.
Then the initial mods are installed - C&L air tube, 90mm maf, cold air filter, new plugs, five lb lower pulley, predator. The same time same day same conditions. The result was (my instructions to Willie focussed on KEEP IT SAFE) out of the gate 3000 rpm
torque is climbing from 440 to a peak of 480 at 3250 then a steady decline to 419.7 rwtorque at 4650 rpm. At the same time the hp is doing this, 3000 rpm 300 ish steady climb to 380 rwhp at 4650. From 4650 to 5100 both curves are slowly dipping.
My a/f shows a very conservative steady even to 11.16 (remember the safe aspect) the timing I don't know I need to ask, but the owner of Mustang Motorsports and friend said quote "Willie has no timing in your tune, there is a lot of room to get more aggressive"
If I had a scanner at home you would be looking at the dyno sheets. Could I have got more, damn right I could of, but that isn't my game at this point.
Is the truck different - I have to learn how to feather it out all over again and I am loving every minute.
Glad you have a good experience Kurt! Not sure I have added anything to the discussion, but you pro brother's out there may make some sense of this. As said in earlier posts anyone can create numbers on a pce of paper. Willie and Chris (owner of Mustang Motorsports) are interested in realistic numbers not inflated. (this is the same tuner that brought my '03 to 496/562 K/B, 12.1 with only 14 degrees timing a couple years ago).
Going from 338 to 380 rwhp and 349 to 420 rwtorque at peak interval on a conservative tune is music to my "seat of the pants" measure.
D-Day
