Hey Trimble,

Is the exhaust louder? Yes.
Will it wake the neighbors? If floored by their window. ("What the Hell was that?")
From what I understand, the kits after the first of the year will come with SS Comp gasket. I received my kit with new factory gaskets. They have a full instruction on the instillation of the kit. Loosen the motor mount? No. You have to take the motor mount bolt OUT and jack the motor up 3 plus inches to get the mother in!!

A word of caution. If you install passenger side first, make sure that you cut one inch off of the top of shock bolt on the passenger side. If you do not, when you jack the engine over, the passenger header will go right into the upper shock stud. I found this little tip out almost the hard way. Luckily, I stopped lifting the motor and was looking around to see what else was happening and saw that I almost kinked the tube on the passenger side. The kit is well worth the money and I'd highly recommend it.

I wish the weather up here was warmer so I could give you some track numbers. Have to wait until spring.

Cool

The installer used the stock header gaskets instead of the ones that JBA provided. He said they were better quality and that they were less likely to cause problems than new ones.

I mostly just get my truck out on the weekends since I travel most of the week. I'm looking forward to meeting more of the guys on F-150 in person next year. Just stay in touch and I'm sure we'll run in to each other sometime next year. I haven't met Nathan yet either, but hopefully I can meet up with him at an autocross event next spring.

Hey sixpipes,

Did any gaskets come with your JBA's? Or did you reuse stock ones? I am always reluctant to break factory seals and things, but headers would be nice.

Later,

cc

No...

these are not cast iron catapillars, but rather the OEM headers from our Lightnings. Probably the most performance hindering piece on the whole truck. Really disgusting to look at when compared with the JBAs above.

Thumbs up

sixpipes,

Your JBA headers are truly as beautiful as those stock dogs are ugly! There's just something about stainless pipe. They would even look good mounted on the wall or displayed on a shelf. Anyway, before I get too carried away, I have a couple of questions re the coating:

Do you know how the heat resistant coating is applied? Is it sprayed on? Why does it cost so much? Do you think the "black" coating is worth the extra $$ over the silver? Have you seen the black coating? Does JBA guarantee the coating?

Sorry for all the Q's but a set of these things just may be my next Ligntning indulgence.

Thanks,

Mike

F150SVT

The JBAs all come with double nickel plating. The jet-coating is actually ceramic which would indicate to me that the coating must be fired in a kiln after it is applied. The black jet-coat was not available when I purchased mine, but I would have chosen the silver anyway. I think the black (higher temp coating) would be overkill for most of us.

Thanks sixpipes,

Just one more question: If I budget a total of $1,000 for the headers, silver coating and installation (assuming I don't put 'em on myself), would I be in the right price ballpark?

Headers w/jet-coating run $600 including freight from the on-line store. Installation should run $300 max (installation cost me $250). That still leaves a $100 to play with. It was a little more difficult to find a shop willing to do the installation than I had expected. Good luck! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I just got my Bassani headers in. it took some looking to find a shop that would do the install. I was quoted $250 but I got a grumpy call from the installer in the middle of the process because the bassanis are apparantly MUCH harder to install than they appear. More to follow as the installation proceeds...

Cool

I would have saved you $50 and no gripes...since I did my own last weekend. I noted this in an earlier post. Keep us posted.

I'd love to have taken you up on the $200 install offer, but I think the trip from texas to atlanta would have burned off more than $50 worth of gas...

I did however, read your posts to the installer which quieted him down in the griping dept somewhat.
