Post Psychological Aspects Of Being Struck By Lightning & Other Stuff

I am amazed at how the Lightning has changed my boring commute. Now I have owned some interesting performance cars recently such as LT1 Camaro & Trans AM, Stang GT, Porsche, etc. With those, I got my share of action, but I never found myself looking for it. Commuting was boring. With the L, I am constantly on the "hunt" for kills. Also, I must face the bitter disappointment of rejection, such as when a lowered, yellow, exhaust equipped Cobra refused to play with me last night. Doctor, what's wrong with me, and is there any hope for a cure??

BTW, question to you hot rodders: I can see no reason for turning off the overdrive in an off the line max performance run to 1/4 mile. Am I missing something. Also, my L loves to fishtail off the line, which has caused be to back off on occasion so as not to cause a major accident. Do others experience this?

My L is the first vehicle where driving on-road was a recreational activity. Now, I'll go for a drive just as relaxation. When I'm asked where I'm going, my response is usually a quote from Braveheart : "I'm goin' to peck a fight!"

Driving my Lightning was so much fun. Driving my new to me 88 Lebaron is also so exciting. I never know who is going to pull up along side, no matter what it is I always give a little rev (to keep it from dying). When the light goes green, I hope I make it to the next one. When it comes to hills and twisties this car is like no other, top speed uphill is about 45 with the rpms jumping from 1500 to 1700 constantly.
Can't wait to the end of March!

You guys are absolutely making the wait for my new L unbearable. I am so looking forward to the day my dealer calls and says it has arrived. I think I'll take the day off and supervise as they prep it. I have never even driven one, must less sat in one w/the engine running. Actually, come to think of it, I have never even driven a Ford, wow, this should be a good 1st experience. I felt that I want to be a total virgin till I get behind the wheel of my new L. Gee, I hope I can handle it?!

Talking

Talking about kills, last night I left work around 11pm and 2 big guys in a Nissan 240SX started revving next to me. So on take-off, I rolled onto the throttle gently, but kept going until I was almost all the way to the floor. At the next light, they pulled up again and I started lauging at the expressions They must have difficulty looking in the mirror this morning.

Cool

Sandy,

You are so right! I fall in love with my L all over again every morning on the commute to work. The wonderful power and overall feel of the truck is just intoxicating. And since the day I picked it up on July 3, a day hasn't passed that I did not receive at least one compliment on how good it looks. In the sport truck world (or muscle car, for that matter), it just doesn't get any better than this!

Hey Mike, I guess you got yours just a couple of days after me - June 30th. I am amazed at how many people are hanging out of their car windows gazing at the truck, and how often I am engaged in conversation about it (often times in heavy commuter traffic). The only problem with the commute, is that the traffic rarely lends itself to a good race.

Wink

Just to grind in the salt...

The VERY day I recieved my Lightning off the barge I saw 2 red Lightnings and a white one. One red one was stock, the other had the 80s style cab flares and the 90s style wing (spoiler) on the rear. The white one had the silver tint that faded into black. Before then, I only saw one red one. Thumbs up from all the Mustang owners, mean looks from the dodge truck guys. A chevy owner asked if it was all wheel drive. I said no, but they still said it was sweet as hell. That was one of my favorite days...

That was in Anchorage. Here in Vegas, I still haven't seen a true 2nd gen. Lightning.
