Question SCT Pro Racer Questions??????????

For Christmass the wife's getting me the Sct pro racer package so i got a few questions for those who know about it?

1.Wheres the best place to buy one price wise and customer support?

2.Should i choose the flasher or chip version? ( I already have a PSP sct chip with dial control)

3.Can my PSP chip be used to program or start as a starting point?

4.How tunable is this setup? Does it give the same options as our tuners?

5.Would i be able to burn a chip with the chip version for another vehicle?

6.For those with this setup, how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10? Any problems with it?

Thanx in advance for any feedback.

1. Check around on the prices.
2. It is up to you, the flash tuner that I have holds 3 tunes, it is the older 9100 version - so it is a bit slower than the Xcal1 or Xcal2. It depends if you want to burn the chip each time you make a change to the tune or download it to the flash tuner, then flash the PCM.
3. If your PSP Tune was done via the SCT Advantage Software, you would have to ask Sal to email you the .zcf file - you can then re-name the file however you like and then load the tune.
4. It is very tunable, you can change just about anything you can imagine inside the PCM - it can also get you into a lot of trouble if you go changing things without knowing what you are doing.
5. The software license is for one PCM Code, in my case it is NLP2 for an 03 Lightning, so I can only tune for this box code - you could write a tune for someone if you wanted, but they will need the burner or flash tuner to load the file - my SCT 9100 is VIN Locked for just my truck, if I ever put the stock tune back in, then it can be re-used again for one vehicle.

I have the SCT Racer Pro, it came with the truck I bought from Jody/Camcojb. I like it a lot, there is a huge learning curve doing your own tuning - basically the Advantage Software is the same exact software used by SCT Tuners, except it is a single license/vehicle so you can only tune one vehicle with the programmer. I would recommend buying The Basics of Tuning from SCT, I have been reading this book and picking Jody's brain quite a bit.

I would recommend also buying a wideband & having the ability to datalog this is crucial for doing your own tuning, I have the Raptor datalogger to data log anything I want - again there is another learning curve to read the data and how to format it.

I overall think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread having the ability to do my own tuning, like I said it is a huge learning curve.

I bought mine from Modular Depot. http://www.modulardepot.com/

2.Should i choose the flasher or chip version? ( I already have a PSP sct chip with dial control)

Flasher is faster and easier in my opinion.

3.Can my PSP chip be used to program or start as a starting point?

They will give you a start-up tune based on your mods that will get you started. Like Shocked said you need a good wideband and the datalogger that is included with the Pro Racer to finish the tuning..

4.How tunable is this setup? Does it give the same options as our tuners?

Yes.

5.Would i be able to burn a chip with the chip version for another vehicle?

No.

6.For those with this setup, how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10? Any problems with it?

10.

Thanx in advance for any feedback.

2. If you already have a chip, why not buy the upgrade version for $375 as opposed to the full version for $795?

5. You can buy add-on chips for additional vehicles through modulardepot, so I don't know why you couldn't elsewhere.

Another vote for http://www.modulardepot.com

The upgrade package is a good idea. You will want the Raptor and also a method for getting correct A/F ratios.

Thanx Shocked,Jody,Kimball, and Rocks. So basically i can get just the upgrade and use my existing chip. That would be great!!!!!! I can put the extra money towards datalogger and A/F setup. Wouldnt the chip version be quicker? Cant you program up to 4 programs and just turn the dial on the switch for an instant change in programs. I thought with the flash version you have to load each program one at a time.

You are correct. The chip versian is quicker for changing tunes. The flasher requires you load each tune as you need it.

For those of you with the pro racer package? I've been doing some research to find out which pin on the Lightning's computer would control the electric fan (that it didn't come with). My question is, with Pro Racer Package, Can you turn on that feagure with the ODBII in the Lightning and set the temperatures?

(no point in having to fan controllers when the ECU can do it, right?)
Thanks

If I remember right, there are no drivers in the Lightning PCM to output the fan control. So turning it on in the tune would do nothing. I have not tried it myself though, I am going off old information from when I looked into the same thing a few years back.
