calling all bassani equiped Lightning owners
many thanks for sharing your experiences
with bassani-X.seems alot of L owners are
ready to plunk down the denaro. I know this
is going to sound like beating a dead horse
but please review the noise factor again!
I'll never ask again!!! I was very impressed
like many L owners with how refined our
trucks are. WOT noise doesn't concern me
but cruising speed noise kind of does.
I don't want to have to blast the radio
to block out the sound. can you take a long
trip without ear muffs. do you think it
takes away the refined nature of the L?
please guys any and all info would be
greatly appreciated!!!

The idle pitch is lower, more a growl than a rumble. Kind of like a sleeping tiger purring. At 2100 rpm, the drone is much lower pitched and very pleasant compared to the stock setup. At WOT, get back, Jack. The Beast howls and screams, at the same time.
I only have the headers on, but I am very pleased at the nice tone it has now. Not nearly as harsh as before. It's civilized down low where everyone can see, but when it turns into a black (insert preferred color here) blur, then everyone knows that godzilla is awake, and hungry.

I cant speak to the full bassani system. As the headers are the main restriction, thats all I replaced (and saved $1000+).
But regarding the headers:
My lightning is QUIETER now than it was stock at both idle and cruising speeds. I havent had it fully WOT, but at about 3700RPMs the noise is lower in pitch but not much louder than stock. There is more power though. I think the only part of the bassani system that makes a dramatic noise difference is the muffler.

Gee whiz! Haven't had it WOT! I spend more time at WOT then normal throttle! How can you resist stepping on that beast??? I know that this L is going to get me in trouble with the boys in blue. It is impossible to resist the feeling of this beauty screaming at WOT as it briskly shifts at about 300 RPM into the redline! Yes!

Today, I ordered the full Bassani ceramic
coated system, due in next week.
To be honest, I considered only the headers,
and then I thought maybe just replacing the
muffler would give me the sound I wanted.
So what the H , go ahead and get the sound &
the extra horsepower/torque that I want!
There is nothing worse than having some guy
in a Dodge/Chevrolet with "cowboy pipes"
sounding good, when you can blow by him on the
left, and stick your exhaust pipes into his
left ear!!!

Don't care how loud it is!

You'll like it
It is louder...but I have a friend that has a 350 chevy with everything stock w/o mufflers...his is a little louder than mine. Had a passenger today and it seemed like that muffled the noise a bit. I have had a change of heart...I like it, I love it, I want some more of it! Seriously, my first inclination was that it was a little on the loud side...but I think that comes from me fixing to be a new daddy. We are expecting our first in sometime in April and I think that is probably playing on me a bit. Honestly, the full kit should have been stock on our bad boys ;}

Just a reminder, guys, that Power Surge Peformance (Sal) will discount your Bassani purchases 10% with a National Lightning Owners Club membership. That's a pretty serious chunk of change on a entire exhaust system. Matter of fact, the difference pays for FIVE YEARS of NLOC memberships!

once again thanks for your posts! intresting
info from bassani: the SS comp header gaskets
are NOT presently available. was told it
took 4 months to get developed by an
outside source and when it finnaly came in
(january) it didn't work right! sadly they
are not expecting a remake until summer.also
I talked to the R & D guy who designed the
X- system. he indicated while the didn't
dyno the individual pieces, he believes
the greatest power increases come from
the cat-back since that's where the X pipe
is located.hey, whatever just get me to the
twelves in the 1/4 mile. I think I'm pretty
close since I've run a 13.3 at 103mph with
just a hypertech chip! track opens feb 25th
here in the east. hope to see SPIRO99svt
since he introed me to this site.

What's up with this news about the SS Comp gaskets not being right? Who did you talk to? Anybody else heard this? Has anybody else received theirs and installed them without being told this?
They finally sent me a set of the SS Comp gaskets last Friday. So I did the install. Nothing was mentioned to me about the gaskets not being right. HELP!

I can't remember the guy's name that I talk
to at bassani, but he seem to know what he
was talking about. he said they where
sending out the stock ss gaskets not the
custom ones that are made to their design
specs. he said the stock ones are fine
just not of the same quality as theirs.
he said their design will never leak even
after the 1st heat cycles the headers and
gaskets are exposed to.he said when they
become available that they would send them
out at no charge, however couldn't see why
anyone would go thru the grief of removing
the headers to install them. kind of
irratates me, but Idon't think I can wait
till summer to buy the system. gotta have
NOW!!! let me know what you think.

Hey LightningFreak,
I know I will hear about this but here goes anyway.
I have a complete Bassani on my 99.5. I do find it loud and because my bride rides on the exit side, she often comments on how nice my truck was before I began taking new parts off a new truck. I also found the sound to be tinney, not as deep as flowmasters. Time has soften my feelings and I have grown use to the level of noise and sound of the exhaust system. It is a great system and very well made.(good luck with the front two bolts on the drivers side). It is still the only one I would buy, but it took me a while to get use to it.
