Post Supra humbled

I was driving my L tonight, with over 300 lbs. of cargo in the back. I'm going towards the freeway and run into a supra turbo w/ a huge (I mean outrageous) exhaust tip. Well I'm not trying to start anything since I've got cargo, but it just happens that I end up in front of him going onto the freeway. This guy is on my *** like it's Winston Cup and obviously trying to start something, while I am obviously not in a situation to mess around. Then he passes me, cuts in front of me, gets next to me again, and slows down to my speed (about 65). I can't take it anymore, I turn off my OD, hit the gas and surprisingly I pull in front! I then cut in front of him, and go full throttle as my tires kick dirt up his windshield. He tried to catch up for a while but then we hit some traffic and he gave up. Boy he must've been pi**ed off about that. Not only did a truck give him a whooping but a loaded truck - and he started it! I love being the underdog.

damn, if you had over 300lbs in with you & you walked away, then mine musta been modded more becuz I couldnt reel him in, in fact I think he might have been inchin' away from me. Like i said he got the jump first b4 I knew he was even racin w/ me. Wish I coulda seen what kind it was for sure (turbo or not), but based on what you just wrote I'm more confident it was. I had about 2lbs on coffee in the cab with me, not really sure if I had left it @ home if it woulda made a dif.

Stock Supra Turbos run low 13s. $600 in mods puts them in the mid 12s. Tread lightly.

Hey Mike where was this at? I was on the phone with a friend of mine when a supra turbo pulled up next to him in his vette(all black convert 99 6 speed) They both started to race and after he said that he got ahead and stayed ahead of him by 2 cars.Didnt race that far maybe a block or so. Anyways while I was yappin to him after his race he pulled up to the light the supra turbo and then looked over ion the lane next to him ,low and behold a svt lightning. Well my friend said he would let the svt have the leftovers of the turbo. The turbo and the svt both take off waiting for one to make the first move, and then the turbo took off. My friend made a right and went home. He said the guy in the svt was just waiting for the supra to make a move.Since he didnt see what went on after that I was wondering if you guys jumped on the freeway. Got all my buds lookin for the L's man!!
just wondering if it was you pal>

Nathan,

Unless the guy put a fake turbo decal on, it was a turbo, I was behind him for a couple of lights going to the freeway. No way I could hear his turbo over the S/C whine. If it wasn't a turbo he was pretty foolish to mess with me, especially while I'm hauling stuff, so he deserved it anyways.

N20Boy,

I doubt it was me unless your friend remembers seeing two huge crates in the back. I was in Irvine (leaving my house) by the way.

Later,
Mike

I've had the (mis?)fortune of lining up against several supras. I also know someone who has a turbo that regularly runs 9s but is a dedicated racer.

my 2c :

Yoda ran against a turbo.

Brimstone may have run against a rice-boy who took his non-turbo and added go-fast stickers. Unless of course you heard the turbo spool up. In that case, mighty good kill.

Dave,

What a small world! I drive by there all the time on the way to work. I am off of Culver and Barranca. 5 minutes away! E-mail me privately (T1D2C3@aol.com), let me know when you'll be in the area. I'm looking to go back to Carlsbad with my Drag T/As - not this coming Saturday but the next one.

Hi fella's,

Just wanted to jump in and say hi to the locals! Im from San Diego and go to Carlsbad raceway regularly. Ive seen a few Lightnings out there..might have seen one or more of you. BTW..i have first hand experience with Supra turbo's. A good friend has one and ive driven his. IMO you would have a real good chance from a stop or a slow speed against them, although at freeway speeds (70-80mph is their sweetspot) they pull very hard. My buddies only has filter, exhaust and a slightly upped boost and he beats C5 vettes easily. Im no rice lover, just throwin info your way. If you beat one on the freeway and he has time to stay in the boost for more then a few seconds..youre doin real well!

Have fun!
DS

p.s fire me an email when youll be at Carlsbad and maybe we can meet up.
