I need snow tires!!!!
I need snow tires!!!!
Well Im looking into gettin a set of 2000 L rims... They will be on all year (even in the winter) and so I need to first know if I can get a decent snow tire in that size. (what size is that anyway??)
Any recomendations on a good winter tire?
Any help would be great!
Thanks
Marc

The wheels are 18" x 9.5" and the L tire size is 295x45x18. Go to tirerack.com and do a search for snow tires for that size. When I was buying snow tires Michelin had the best but I don't know if they make the L size.
I dont know if Bridgestone makes Blizzacks that size but I had the SR50s on my ///M3 and my car was unstoppable. I could push snow with my bumper and never lose traction.
I have owned 4x4s all my life and have come to the realization that its 90% what tire you have.
I highly recccomend the SR50 if they make them that large.

Do a SEARCH under my screen name and 'snow' to find several threads on this subject. You want narrow tires and weight in the bed. In heavy snow, or when you can't go above 40 MPH, shift into 2nd gear to minimize wheelspin (locks out 1st gear). I've driven my L through 6 winters with good results. Blizzaks on Expy wheels and 500# of salt and sand in bags in a 'crib' in the bed.
Winter tires?
Are you talking about an all-season tire or are you going to use the same rims and put a winter tire on the L rims during inclement weather season? I went with a set of Enkei RT-6 rims in 18x8.5 with Nitto Terra Grappler tires from Discount Tire. December 1st the Forgeline wheels come off and the Enkei/Nitto combination go on. March 1st I swap back. If you are just looking for winter tires, try the Dunlop's. They have an 18 inch close to our overall tire height.

i tried the snow tire thing first winter I had the truck, before it was moded......f'n waste of time not to mention the stress of worrying about other people hitting me.
Buy a **** box. Best thing ever.

I ran some Winterforce tires from tirerack and cragar rims from summit last year. was 400 for 4 rims and 4 tires.
They worked very well in the snow. I had about 300lbs of sand bags in the bed also. This might be a cheaper alternative then trying to find 18" snow tires.

Thanks...
I my truck is not an L but rather a 98 ext. that has been dressed like an L.
The truck IS my winter beater (and work horse) but since I bought it I just cant stop with the modding. Anyway, I want to get a set of L rims and keep them on all year (I hate the 17" alloys that I have now).
Again.. thanks for the input
