Question Does unleaded race fuel hurt the engine?

Does it hurt the engine or any sensors to run unleaded race fuel? I have found a place that sells Sunco GT 104 and the pump gas here is 91 octane.

I have heard mixing the two at 30% of the GT and 70% of the 91
would be 94.9.

I don't want to screw something up by running the race fuel.

Thanks

2fast,

no the 104 octain dow not hutrt the truck, it might the O2 sencors buit not the truck. In fast teh truck like the 104 ocatain better, makes more power and no detination on the top end (good for the track and useing NOS)

Hey guys, Sal here. Actual "race" gas will damage the O2s. That includes gas like Cam2, VP, etc. High octane fuel like Sunoco 104 is fine. It's actually the best you can use on a street driven vehicle. You can use octane "boosters" as well. They will turn your O2s colors, but they don't damage them. Race gas will damage the sensors. It takes about a full tankfull of race gas to effect them. What happens is it will cause the sensors to read "slow". That will affect the way it drives on the street. Since the O2s are not used during WOT, race performance won't be affected, but non-WOT drving will. Hope this helps.

As long as the gas is an unleaded you will be fine. If you use a leaded race gas the o2 sensor will go like sal stated

Question

Hey Sal:

I've burned many gallons of VP, C12/C14 also Avgas in past vehicles that I still have and I'm not getting any "Check Engine" light or my fuel economy has not changed. No "funny" driving around town. So what gives? Am I just lucky?

I've always heard that leaded fuel will foul O2 sensors and converters, but my stuff always runs just fine after drums of the stuff. Is there a test I can do to check the range on the O2 sensors?

It only takes about two gallons of leaded gas to fry a modern catalytic converter. Plus, that white lead residue coats the surface of the O2 sensor's wires and changes their resistance so they don't read correctly any more either.

I change my O2 sensor every 10,000 miles when I'm racing because of the lead contamination. It has made up to a 2 mpg difference.

Later!
