Underhood Temp
i was wondering how much hot/cold air the PSP air kit was being subjected to, sans airbox. i used a digital 0-1500F temp meter with multiple probes to check outside air, air at cold dome on filter and air at hot end of filter by the sensor. the temp today is 70F. i was surprised at how well ventilated the motor is. when moving, the largest spread between the 3 sensors was 6 drgs. when on I-12 at 80mph it was 1drg. when at a long stop light it would climb up to 90drgs and start dropping immediately as you accelerated. i know during the summer the spread will be much greater and quicker, and i will have to do it again then, but for now it seems the underhood temps can be controlled by hitting the gas pedal. compared to some of the new powerstrikes at the office, this motor runs ice cold. i did this same test on my blown ram last year, trying to relocate the K&N and run 3 fans to cool that big b*****d down, in 85 drg air, the filter was getting 110F, the underhood temp above the engine was 280F, in the cramped areas near the chrome headers, 600F, all of this while ideling, it would cool down alot when moving , but nowhere near outside temps like the "L" does.
