another day, another best
another day, another best
I did it, Ifinally did it. I broke 12.7x on street tires. I was getting mad cuz I was getting constant 12.82x slips (which was a new best), but I wasnt happy. The track was hooking pretty well as long as I got the tires dry, but I was not getting as hard of a launch as I wanted. It was the end of the night and the last day for the Motorplex to be open for the year. I had let the truck cool down 25 minutes or so. I went out, did a good burnout (yes, I know street tires dont need heat, but they need to be dry). Light went green and I was off. pick up my slip and wtf, 12.93. So I hot lapped back up. Next run I brought the rpm up a little and got into the gas faster off the line, 12.78 @ 106.43. Kewl, I broke 12.7x, but I wanted to back it up, so back for another hot lap. What a miserable flop it was, 13.44 with boat loads of spin. So back I went again. 12.77 @ 106.69. I was happy but thought I could grab a 12.75, so back I went for one more hot lap. I decided I would bring the rpm to 1200 and drop it to the floor when it was go time just to see if it would hold. Light goes, I dropped, got a small amount of wheel spin. I figured it would be a 12.8x cuz it spun. Picked up my slip...

I got my brick well into the 12.7xs with street tires (HANKOOKS)that Lots of people think suck **** cuz they are a 400 tread wear instead of a 300 tread wear. Just a bit of race gas, a cool day, and as much timing as I could through at it. I do believe with some slicks I have a 12.5x machine on my hands.
Anyways, I am happy as
(for now) and wanted to share the news.

Congrats!
I'm pretty much in the same boat off gas. I did cut two 12.6s one night though because track prep was very good. But generally I'm in the 12.8 area on my nitto 404s. (all season SUV tires)

When I hit my first goal of 12.8x I was not happy. Actually I was mad cuz I wasnt hitting 12.7x. But I was happy as h3ll to get 3 12.7x slips. Wsh I would have had more timing to put to it. 20* and it could have taken more. Thats what I get for running my street tune and jacking the timing with some 110 fuel. It was fun anyhow.
