Post Mystic paint?

Does anyone know where I can get the Mystic paint or something similar to it? I don't want to paint my car or anything like that I just want to pain a model so the paint has to be safe on plastic. Also if anyone also knows where I can get the pearl white paint that kind of changes as well I would appreciate it.
Thanks

John

It is a paint that changes color depending on the light and angle that you are looking at the car from. Ford offered it on 1996 Cobra's only and made a total of 1999.

Here is a link to a 96 Mystic Cobra

I read somewhere that the 2000 Stang is going to be offered in a Mystic Red/Gold. Not sure where I saw that at.

Cool

Hey guys,

I have a 1996 Mystic Cobra. They made 2000 in 1996 and the option was $816.00. It took THREE years to develop the mytsic. The cost for the paint is roughly $1000.00 a gallon. It takes 1 1/2 gallons to paint the Cobra.

The paint is made by BASF and the only way you can get pints is to take the car to the dealer with the body damage. (Ford Technical Bulletin 95-16-3)... The dealer is supposed to call the JOB1 hotline. The BASF rep will be contacted and HE/SHE flies in and looks at the damage within 24 hours. The BASF rep then Fed-ex's the EXACT amount to the dealer for the repair. I know this first hand because I tried to get some for a Harley Fat-Boy I had and we got snagged.

I know you can by Mystic touch-up paint. If you need a VIN just let me know and I'll give you mine.

They are making a 2000 Cobra with the mystic gold. I have already been in touch with my dealer.

With regards to repairs a friend of mine had one that was keyed and he had the left side repainted and you could not tell. The bodyshop said the hardest thing was actually getting the repair basecoat material.

If you have never seen a mytsic cobra they are wild.

Talking

Just some added information.
My neighbor has the 1995 Mustang GT convertible that was the BASF prototype for the Mystic paint (it was shown all throughout Ford prior to the 1996 Cobra introduction). The story on the paint that H8 2 W8 just cited is pretty much it. I know because my neighbor works for BASF and I heard it there too.

Actually, Ford stopped paying BASF royalties for the Mystic paint and so it's on the open market now. At first you had to have a damaged Mystic car to buy the paint, but that is no longer the case.

Later!

Thumbs down

Man I hate dealers, I went to one & that is the info they told me about the mystic paint, & why they didnt make them anymore (my prevous post). I wanted to get some for my mustang back in 97. Sorry for wrong info I was given. I was told that they couldnt get any either becuz they couldnt match the paint. If any customers had problems with scrathces that they had to repaint the "whole" car. Well at least I know better now
