I have the factory tech unit, Never done any data logging on the temp difference with or without but I'm sure it helps. The F-250 trans cooler seems popular and is huge and I believe inexpensive. Do a search for Tim Skeltons site, he has a write up on the F-250 unit I think.

I have not yet installed a cooler, but am doing some research now. I have a 2800 stall and need to add one soon.
I am not too keen on adding any weight to the front of the truck so I am deciding between the Moroso cooler/filter(a heat sink style unit) and the stacked plate fan cooled unit offered by Troyer performance.
Working on getting weight distributed better so the typical front mounted units don't appeal to me for this application.

You are literally talking a pound or two even with the Super Duty cooler. If that is a concern, "not too keen" would be the understatement of the year.

Two or three pounds here, some more there. The best way to reduce weight by 100lbs is to find 100 places to drop a pound.
I am close to the HP limits without adding nitrous so my only way to lower ET will be thru significant weight savings.
I also wanted to make people aware of other types of coolers available.

Installed Factory Tech cooler about a year ago, and have logged w/Predator and Trans Temp gage. Between 15 and 20 degree difference in peak temps, especially in hot summer days - definitely cooler. it is installed inline with factory cooler using supplied fittings, in front of grill up high on passenger side.

very satisfied with results

what would happen if u took the trans lines out of the radiator and installed them directly into the trans cooler or coolers?? doesnt the radiator heat up the trans fluid??? im just trying to preserve me trans as long as i could, no $$ left after buying a house!!

I heard that!! I'm now down 131lbs and will continue to look for more til the day I die. (not sacrificing function at all either)

Too bad all the weight I seem to find is on the back half of my L.

70274 - SuperCooler rated at 29,200 BTU 11"x11"x1-1/2"

Looks like the same as Factory Tech, except bigger. Bigger is better when it comes to tranny coolers.

I've said all along that my tranny cooler was just a nice piece, done well. You can certainly do it cheaper, that's for sure. The hoses I include actually cost more than the cooler itself, and it comes with 4 fittings that between them cost me, at my volume, I think $32 per cooler.
The super duty is a great piece also, and if you live where they don't have weather, it will work fine, but you CAN overcool your tranny. The shift program is altered until your temps get up to 125 degrees and your converter lockup is also disabled in cold fluid mode. IN the winter, that can matter with the V-10 unit.

For reference, my kit includes the cooler itself, braided stainless lines and all the fittings needed to connect it without hose clamps etc... and mount it to the radiator. Believe it or not I don't make very much on them, but they are pretty nice kits. They'll also work on about any Ford, I just put one on my '05 Mustang.

Greg:
As i posted, i have your cooler and am extremely satisfied. and ever since i read a while back about the 125 degree threshold, i have monitored (via tran temp gage and predator) shift patterns/0-60 (via Escort GT2/1/4 mile at track and noticed a big difference in shifting above/below 125 degrees. in the colder weather, with your unit and overdrive locked out, driving around town gets me just above 125 degrees - just right. summer, i never see anything above 165.

thanks again for a great piece and ease of install.
