Thumbs down MT Truck Of The Year?

the group considered on the cover of motor trend, were the dakota quad cab, ex-cab tundra, ex-cab silverado, and the ford lightning? the tundra won, . the winner had to be "an all around truck". so naturally they used a lightning

Hell I'm suprised Moter Trend didn't go with their usual GM pick. Toyota must be paying more now.

They can wave all they want, cuz it'll never be a finish line flag they're waving.

Let's see, I've hauled building supplies, towed a 6000 lb boat, whooped *** in the stoplight grand prix then washed her up and went out on the town.

Sounds pretty "all around" to me

I stopped subscribing to the car rags when David E. Davis left Car and Driver and Autoweek stopped being printed in tabloid format. Boy, I just dated myself.......

I had a subscription for autoweek in 1984 when I was "only" 14. Love reading any and all rags on cars, (even the import ones need to know the comp.)

While I ocassionally enjoy reading a copy, my overall opinion of MT is that it's for the uninformed auto enthusiast. They frequently get the specs wrong. They also seem to tout one thing one day and then turn around and praise a competing brand the next, without ever choosing a favorite. They sit on the fence every time. And, it's been widely reported that any manufacturer can get its car, truck, SUV, etc. named "___ of the Year" by outspending its competitors on MT advertising.

Mark,

Talking about dating yourself, I subscribed to Road & Track back when it was known as Sports Car Graphic! And, while I agree that overall editorial quality went down a notch at C&D after David E. left, I still subscribe and also get Davis' Automobile mag, which I like. After AutoWeek switched over to the slick magazine format I stayed with them primarily for their classified ad section, which is great.

Mike

They didnt show any actual numbers or results, but did mention that the Tundra V8 "could out accelerate anything in its class". Obviously the lightning is way out of its class but but since it is included in the comparison the statement is quite misleading, read"stupid".

Even fords regular 5.4L is out of it's class.
They campared it to ford 4.6L even though a 5.4L Ford supercab is CHEAPER than a Tundra supercab.
I guess they are talking Liter class and not $$ class.
Tundra has no class IMHO.
See what www.pickuptruck.com said about Tundra.
