Thumbs up

Mark & Sandy,

OK by me to wait a couple of weeks for our Orlando World of Speed (Bithlo) outing. My PSP air sys and chip arrived today (thanks Sal!) but probably will not be able to install for several days. Plus, like Sandy says, it should be colder then.

Sandy, Would really like to pay you a visit at SimCom (love airplanes). My stepson works for SGI (Silicon Graphics) and although I don't recall if he said you guys use any of his stuff, he has mentioned your operation. However, after enjoying a year off to travel and have fun (it was great), I just started a new job (VP Marketing & Administration at American Pioneer Life), and am working myself to a frazel so don't know when I may be able to stop by.

Anyway, once we 3 settle on a date I'll contact my 4 other hi-po trucker friends and maybe we all can convoy out to Bithlo together.

Mike

Well Mike, if you are into airplanes you will enjoy your visit. I was an Eastern Airlines pilot for 25 years until their untimely demise in 1991. I was lucky enough to find SimCom right here in Orlando, and helped build the company into a rather successful operation. Of course I would rather be behind the wheel of a jet than behind a desk, but stuff happens. My only exposure to real airplanes these days is jumping out of them on weekends which is probably more fun than flying them. Like I have always said, "Why fly a perfectly good airplane when you can jump out of it." I have jumped out of everything from a 727 Jet at 175 mph, to a hot air balloon, Ford Tri-Motor, DC3, Lockheed Constellation, King Airs, Caravan, Twin Otter, etc, etc.

I dunno, Sandy. Perfectly good airplane. Not on fire. Not out of gas. And you just go jump out the door. Of course, both my son and youngest stepson like to do it so maybe their ole man should give it a try too.

Speaking of old and airplanes, my wife gave me a great birthday present last year: a 30 minute full aerobatic ride in a T-6 Texan (actually the Navy SNJ model) down at Warbird Adventures in Kissimmee. The airplane was 54 years old (one year older than me) but could twist and turn with the best of 'em. If that don't git yer heart goin', nothing will!

That is a real popular gift for our customers that come to Orlando to train. Many of them are given the present of one of those flights by their wifes, girlfriends, etc. I'd love to ride in one of those beautys. I've watched T-6's race, but never had the pleasure of a flight (or a jump out of) in one of them.

You really need to go up in the T-6, Sandy. You'd love it! You get to sit in the front seat and do all the flying you want. The instructors are very experienced and very good. You can do any routine you want except one that pulls negative G's - tends to make the radial engine backfire, which is not the best thing in the world. I did Imelman's, Split 8's, loops, wingovers, rolls, you name it. Lots of fun.

Take a look at the following Warbird Adventures website for details: http://www.warbirdadventures.com/ .
