Have Boost? Thought 8lbs was stock on our trucks

I just installed a Auto meter Boost gauge on my truck. Because the factory gauge was shooting past 10lbs, I found out my truck is making 10lbs of boost on the auto meter one. Now I have never change the pulley on this truck. I am the 2nd owner of it. I looked on the pulley and still see the ford emblem and numbers.

Now I still have the factory Airbox, but I cut a big hole in the bottom of it and put in a K&N air filter. That is really my only mod I have done except the boost bypass. Will this be the reason for the 10lbs of boost.

My other ? is what has anyone seen with a ported blower and a stock pulley setup.

Stock pulleys, stock airbox, stock air filter, and Stiegs ported blower, I was seeing 12 lbs of boost on my AutoMeter Phantom boost gauge.

I was seeing a max of 10lbs with a drop in K&N filter. Yours sounds about right.

8lb of boost is what is rated at STP (standard temperature and pressure)

of course, in cooler weather you will see more (hence your 10 lbs) or possibly less (I know of someone running under 8lb stock).

typically, however, we hear about people running more than 8lbs stock because it's 'cool' and seemingly unusual.

I guarantee if your truck is stock still (even filter) and you made a run in hot hot hot temps you'd be lucky to see 8lbs.

.................................. boost is fun!

ohh, and to (somewhat) answer your other question about ported blowers, I see about 14.5 (hard to tell with stock guage--it's possibly a little more than 14, but def. less than 16)lbs with my stieg ported S/C and 4lb lower.

Thanks guys for the info. Well I had a 12inch k&n Cronical filter laying around and I through it on. Just for ****s and giggels. I am seeing 11/12lbs of boost now. SO I am just amazed now. I have to try to take a pic with my camara just to make sure my EYES are seeing things right.

yeah, sounds like a bad guage, or just still using the stock one?? you should be making 12-14. my 2001 was making 10-11, but it appeared to have a smaller upper pulley when I bought it used. FYI..the cobra Mustangs use a larger pulle than that of a Lightning, we are already overdriven about 2 lbs over a stang. ..Stangs get 6-8, we are supposed to get 8-10 stock.

Jay your boost is about right. Porting the blower for you will only make your truck lose a pound or two of boost but the charge charge will be cooler. You will need to spool the eaton more. Either way, Wes is the man for the porting. Best price, excellent work.

oops, I didnt see that you were making 10 lbs with the autometer guage, my mistake. 10 is about right, and the stck guages tend to vary from what I've heard and seen. sounds like you are ok with the auto meter. Have a good one, and good luck! BK
