Question Header differences: JBA vs Motorsport

Time to tap the pool of knowledge...

Are there any appreciable differences between JBA and Ford Motorsport SS
headers besides cost? JBA seems to be considerably higher in cost than Ford. Also, what are the performance advantages with ceramic coatings?
JBA offers 2 types but again, they are rather costly. Do the coatings really help performance or are they for show?

Thanks for any input!!

I understand the ceramic coating is not so much performance inhancement as protection from excessive heat in the engine compartment as well as header longevity. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the particulars on the Ford SS headers.

Question

Sixpipes, did you go with the ceramic coating on your headers? I am trying to justify the extra cost since I can't get enough info on the Ford header. Thx

The pictures I posted on the other thread are of the silver jet-coated headers. I personally think it's worth the extra bucks. Check out the other thread on headers if you want to see what the OEMs look like. Pretty disgusting!

Cool! Glad you're using it!

Hey guys, Sal here. The benefits of coating are actually two fold. The headers are coated inside and outside (well, I know Bassani does that). The outside coating protects the headers from the elements. The inside coating actually keeps the heat inside the headers. This lowers underhood temps, but more importantly, keeping the heat in the header, creates a "scavaging" effect that helps to rid the heads of spent gases quicker. This results in a measurable gain. I sell Bassani products, because I beleive they are the best. Anyone interested can check out our Bassani page on the PSP site for pricing. We also offer a 10% discount on Bassani parts to NLOC members.

JBAs are coated inside and out as well.

Question

I have a minor concern re the inside portion of the coating. It may not ever be a problem, but here's my question: Is it possible that the inside coating could ever partially disintegrate (due to excessive heat, old age, stress, etc.) and the residue be sucked up into the motor and kill it?

I have this concern because my '90 SHO ate its cats a few years ago and Ford had to replace my engine ($10,000!) because of it. Bad interior components in the cats broke down and the resultant ceramic "dust" got sucked up the exhaust manifold upon deceleration from high rpm's and scored the cylinders, cam lobes and valves. It was ugly!

F150SVT, that's a good question about the interior coating coming off.
Hopefully Sal will have some input on this as well
Thanks!

Just a little feedback.
On all of my header weather bought or built I send them out to be ceramic coated and I have a performance coating done to the inside. I just took a "sawzall" to my latest headers and all of the coating were intact. In fact the guy that coats my headers stands behind them with a lifetime guarantee, if the coatings fail for any reason he will redo them no charge. Now this is not an absolute, there are no guaranties in life.

Hey thanks Ba, that gives me a little reassurance. I am hem hawing around about ordering since this is a newer vehicle. I'm seriously considering the bassani headers with the coating from PSP. (early b-day present)
