smoke on startup

Hey guys i have a little question for you. My truck has been smoking on start-up but only after it sits for a day or so. i have a little over 2000 miles on it and its a built short block and patriot heads. i don't know how normal this is and it seems to consume a little oil not much it was a quart low on the oil change and is now about a half quart low. do you think this is normal and just because of break-in. that's what i am hoping for. thanks for the info guys

This doesnt sound like the good begining to a new motors life, Incorrectly installed or bad Piston rings and valve guides usually cause these sort of problems. The patriot heads, did they come with bronze valve guides?

If it's only upon start up, generally it's the valve stems/guides/seals problem. If you have worries, just do a compression & leak down test.

i have a built long block with patriot heads, after the first 500mi one quart low. changed the oil, maybe put another 300 mi on it driving local mostly hard, and now im a about a half quart low. dont notice any smoke on start up thats not normal. its runing great so far. dont know if i should be conserned yet? if its burning oil that would be blue smoke? on normal start up i see condensation smoke like white then it goes away.

Same here for stock 5.4L 2V

After about 15K miles using MC 5w-20 and motorcraft filters, I now get a puff of
light blue smoke in the morning. Oil analysis shows elevated levels..
This design issue ? on '03 Expy.
Tnx JR
