Unhappy Well it looks like................

Looks like after almost 6k miles on the built motor [5k at WOT] I will need to freshen it up.I felt I was down on power, only could reach 160 at about 6500 feet [corrected].So I did a cyl leak test and sure enough 8% leakage. So this winter I plan on going and stepping up to the plate and spend the $$ for heads and cams maybe a stroker kit then go with gapless rings and see how that all works out.Plus some other little tricks that I have had setting on the shelf just waiting for this moment! .
After all is said and done should see 180 real easy and maybe close to 190 .Stan

Isn't 8% within spec? Or just not good enough for a race motor?

Yes 8% is well within specs. But when you are at WOT for sustained periods and are trying to go faster and at the level I play at no.when you run the speed classes that I run[145-150] You have to be a tech[168mph] to get those averages and it just can not do it anymore. It took to long the last few times to get to average. And this last time I did not even get there!I think what really killed it was the last event 105 degree,4000 feet and 130 miles at speeds over 150,kinda helped it along.but I knew it was going to happen and to last this long with how I drive it is a testiment to the builder. If I drag raced it it would still be down around 3% if even that much.Stan
