Question F-150 Keyless Entry Remotes & Programming Instructions

What does your local dealer charge for Ford keyless entry remotes?

My Ford dealer wants $119 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my trucks (95 & 99 Lightning).

I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming.

I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too.

What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.

Where are they hiding the remotes on that site? I can't seem to find them in any search or keyword.

There is a key sequence (Key on and off three or 6 times) and then
press the remote lock button to get them programmed. At least that
is what I remember. I think it's in the owners manual or the service DVD.

I will look or ask today.

I found another site online that I'm willing to give a shot - www.ThePartsYouNeed.com

The other KR site wants about $55 a piece with shipping for the 95 F-150 remote.

They're 1/2 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning.

https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/disp...?productId=297

I'll keep you guys posted. If it works good, I'm going to order one for my 99 as well.

Hell, I just bought 2 remotes on e bay and 2 keys. Remotes were about $35 for 2, and keys were about $28.
If you have both keys just get them cut and you can program yourself. If you lost one you're screwed. Gotta take it to a dealer or good locksmith to re program.
The remotes can be programmed anytime by yourself.

I was screwed. My L only had 1 key. A local lock shop cut 2 new keys and programed all 3 keys so old keys won't work for $100.00. I did the remotes my self.

Can you just explain the above..

I bought my L four weeks ago. I have only one key. The normal black one. No remote entry thing - the dealer lost it.

Am I able to simply buy one on the net and program it up, or is this not possible as I was never supplied with the original?

(I am in the UK by the way, so local Ford dealers know nothing!!!)

I have the programming steps for all ford remotes if you end up needing it. My truck was missing one when I bought it so the dealer mailed me a new one and instructions.

Just read my message. And It isnt exactly clear...

Today, a UK lightning parts supplier told me....

"If you don't have the original remote key fob, you will need to take your lightning to an official dealer and hook it up to a computer and they can program the remote key fobs for you. It CANNOT be done without doing this!"

So my real question is.. Is this guy correct?

Thanks

The Key itself must be programmed by the dealer unless you have 2 already the remote can be programed by:
Turn from OFF to Run 8 times within 10 seconds with the 8th time ending in Run. All doors will then lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on the first remote transmitter. Doors locks will cycle to confirm programming. Press any button on the second transmitter(up to 4 transmitters total possible) Turn ignition to OFF Locksd will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
NOTE: This paper lists it until 2000 but that is also when it was printed.
With only 1 key you are at fords mercy, some locksmiths in the US can also program I have been told?

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail today. 4 days isn't bad for delivery.

Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers.

Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the 99 I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the 95 and a pair for the 99. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use.

ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks!

OK, if I am understanding you correctly if you go to your truck and shift from off to run 8 times your doors should lock and unlock to know you are in programming mode.

1) If the locks do not actuate does that mean you do not have keyless entry?

2) Car was sold to me listing it had the PATS system. This is different than keyless entry?

3) PATS is the security system that is activated by your programmed keys? Both keys work to start the truck so I am assuming they are both "programmed" correctly.

P.S. Bought my first Ford truck (any truck period) today and I love it. Used to drive a little ole Cirrus around. I LOVE all the room I got. already looking for accessories and my wife is already saying, nope. nope. nope. lol

Got a 99' F150 Supercab. Just enough room to stuff the little ones in the back.
