Got A Problem With a 99 Lightning
Hey!! same thing happened to me! Right at 2890 miles. I was driving on the Glenn highway when this new Slowverado thought he had some umph. I punched it after his tailgate was in front of me, and almost immediatly I noticed a huge "farting sound!"
I mistakenly thought it was the EGR pipe, but upon further inspection it turns out it was the loose muffler!
I had the mechanics at the dealer re-torque the muffler, and look for other exhuast leaks. I would have done it myself but I am not SVT Certified. A leaky exhaust can lead to burnt valves...
Hope this helps

I only noticed the "farting sound" at certain higher rpms, and always when I floored it, until I had the dealership take care of it. Be ready to wait 2 hours. I am pretty sure that is what is wrong with your Lightning. You can do a quick check by trying to shake the exhaust tips up and down. If it is easy, the that is the problem. Our exhausts are hung a little loose to flex under pressure. (kinda like a swing). My dealer acutally DID ask the milage on my truck to be sure it was still under warrantee, pretty funny.
