Does NOS octane booster work?

I just wondered cause I've been using 110 octane leaded gas and don't have access to unleaded race gas. So I was just wondering if The NOS octane booster was a legitimate alternative.
Thanks

I use the racing formula (silver can) in my truck before heading down to the track. Kenne Bell only recommends using the NOS octane booster, so it must be ok. I am sure you will get different opinions though. I haven't had a problem running it.

Yes it will raise your octane,

HOWEVER, when it states it raises it 3 points that means:

your 90 octane will now be 90.3 octane.
NOT 93 octane!

I run this at least once a year in all my vehicles to clean out the fuel system. And in the lightning when I'm at the track

Xylene (117 R+M/2 octane) & Toluene (114 R+M/2 octane) are the most effective of the commonly available 'boosters' & can usually be found at paint supply stores like Sherwin WIlliams or Duron for $25 ~ 35 per 5 gallon can. The following is the most cost effective 'ratio' for using these products:

1 gallon of booster for every 3 gallons of pump gas

SOOoo for Xylene: (117 * 3) + (93 * 9) / 12 = 99 octane final mix

And for Toluene: (114 * 3) + (93 * 9) / 12 = 98.25 octane final mix

You also need to be sure and add ~0.5 ounces of a top cylinder lube such as Marvel Mystery Oil per gallon of booster. The lubricants normally found in pump gas WILL get diluted by the xylene / toluene & the MMO will bring it back up to spec. AN added benefit of running a xylene / toluene blend is that they are excellent fuel system cleaners & over a few tanks will remove 99.9% of any varnished old gas residue in the fuel system AND carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.

Keep in mind, you'll need to get a re-tune to take advantage of the extra octane, anyone dumping it into a bone stock ride & expecting to go faster will be sorely disappointed.

If you read the side of the NOS can is says it raises the octane 60 points for the race formula and 30 points for the street formula per 16 gallons, I don't think that many of the other boosters go that high. I put some in my truck a couple of weeks ago because of the pinging I got from that KS 91 octane and it straightened up.

Go to... http://www.torco.com/

Look under power products...

They make a unleaded addtive that works well. Many of us used it. You can get it in single cans, cases, or 5 gallon drums.

Thats the best additive I have ever seen.

When your in Richmond, I can show you a place that sells 100 unleaded race fuel if you want.

60 points equals 60 tenths or six full points...90 = 60 points yields 96 octane.

Of course it says up to 60 points...and it says treats up to 16 gallons of gas. Don't you just love marketing...It doesn't tell you how much gas to mix it with to get the maximum 60 points though.

Im holding a can of torco unleaded accelerator right now.Mixing instructions:
adding a whole 32 oz bottle to 20 gallons of 93 octane will make 97 octane, same bottle added to 10 gallons of 93 will make 104,same bottle added to 5 gallons of 93 will make 107 octane. Not sure if all that is true, but I can say I can add 3-4 degrees more timing.

And 2bscrewed.They also have a leaded additive, but if your still running o2 sensors they too will be screwed

toluene

i run toluene also, to be on the safe side at the track. i just run a 10:1 mix. I think toluene is 114 octane and I'm certain it does not contain lead. it is $7.30/gallon at my local sherwin williams. they did try to charge me 10.xx and 12.xx per gallon on other occasions so make sure they give you the "best" price. open an account with them.
