BAD news--oil sender was not the problem

See this thread for my original concern.

It went OK for about a 1,000 miles and then Thur., it came back again. I took it to the dealer here Fri. AM and they got right on it. The mech. changed the oil and filter and said the oil, IHO, was ruined and he heard a knock in the engine's bottom end.

I drove it to and from work today and everything was OK until I pulled off of the interstate and the light-no pressure showed up again. I drove it slowly home and then I could here the knock myself at idle---light still on and no pressue showing.

I've got to get it either repaired or replace the engine. What should I do; short block, used engine, new engine

Dan

Thank's Rob. That's the kind of info I'm looking for but not that second engine .

FWIW, the mods didn't do the damage IMO. 92,770 miles on it and trouble-free until now. It's my fault as I'd gotten lazy about maint, and oil changes in particular. I was amazed when I looked back at my L log and saw I hadn't changed the oil for 15,000 miles; just adding as needed. I thought I could get away with infrequent oil changes as I drive it about 80% interstate and I don't loaf then. In fact, I was driving it at 75-85 mph on the way home today and did a 5 mile stretch at 90 mph. I'm lucky it didn't throw a rod I guess but it still will need a complete bottom end at best.

I hadn't changed the oil for 15,000 miles
Ohhhhhh you got me in convulsions Dan!!!

My lightnings oil nevers even comes near getting black. The slightest hue of brown and I'm squirming til I get it changed. And I run mobil 1 fully synthetic too.

But hey.. I understand. I once had a datsun I treated like that.

If your not into rpms exceeding stock settings? I'd say just go for a stock "lightning" replacement. I would go for the long block as the OHC system relys on that oil pressure nearly as much as the lower end does.

If you go for the longblock, I would make sure it has the '03-'04 heads with more spark plug threads.

if your budget is tight you might look for someone that has pulled a good low mileage motor and replaced it w/a built motor. Not that I would have any idea where a couple of those might be or anything

Yeeeesssss??? Inquiring minds want to know or would a PM/email be better?

I know guys; I fornicated up. I always had been pretty careful with my oil changes until recently and I have or am going to "pay the price". Yea, I wondered about the upper end not getting sufficiemt oil too.
