Pegged MAF, What are my Options?

Finally got around to doing some datalogging. I'm running a #4, CAI, and full exhaust. In 75F weather my MAF is peaking at about 98% of the max (so safe for the moment). As soon as the weather starts to cool this is going to peg. I'm also hoping to get the blower ported soon, so I know that'll put me out of range.

I did a search and got a lot of stuff about people trying to tune around a pegged MAF which seems shady at best IMO. I'm hoping to collect a comprehensive list of what the options are to fix this correctly. Parts required, Manufacturers, vendors, tuning required, etc? I know the SCT MAF is popular, my question is what else is out there? Are there some better than others? What are the limits with these new options?

I'd propose that you leave it as-is with your current mods. (Provided the A/F is ok on the top end of first gear)

I ask.. what's so detrimental about it being pegged for such a very small amount of time? Every graph I've seen shows the A/F only slightly climbs once it's pegged. If that 5.0V does'nt occur until 5000 rpms? So what.

Rich is right, with just a 4lb and future ported blower, you won't be pegged that bad and any good tuner can correct for it. If you want to spend money or build for future mods, I'd say the SCT MAF.

I agree with you for my current mods. I didn't know I would be so close with a 4# though. When I said 98%, I meant it really is right at 98% not exagerated and fairly consistant through the gears at WOT. Some cooler weather will very likely peg my MAF with my current setup but probably won't be enough to throw out the tune too bad. However I do want to be prepared for when I get my port on my blower, especially if I go to a 6#. I'll get a new tune for this stuff and if I'm going to need a better MAF, I might as well get it at the same time and have it all tuned together.

I had a 6lb, ported blower, and ran the stock MAF. Sal was able to tune around it pretty easy and cold weather did not have me suddenly going lean at high RPM's. On the other hand, it's only $250. While anyone can tune for it, I heard it is easiest with SCT devices/software (makes sense).

You've got a few different options...

MAF-Xtender. This device gets spliced into your MAF harness. It basically rescales your voltage output to the PCM lower, so that it takes longer to hit 5 volts. It gives you 4 different settings of scaling.

Diablosport MAFia. This works the same way as the MAF-X, but it's plug-in, no splicing required. It also gives you 7 different settings instead of 4.

New MAF. You could change your MAF to something like an SCT BA2400. This also works the same way as the MAF-X or MAFia, but it's done in the sensor electronics, that's why it can still use the factory 90mm housing. The BA2400 can support up to about 600 rwhp.

ALL of the above fixes require tune adjustments. You didn't say what you have for tuning. If you have a Predator or Diablo chip, go with the MAFia as your tuner can easily correct for it. If you are using SCT, then go with the BA2400 for the same reason. Honestly, if your tuner knows what he's doing, he can use any device with any software. I have conversions for all. It's also best if you have a way to datalog, because you'll need to check load and some other things once you change the MAF. You should also redyno the truck, and changing the MAF voltage is going to require a new tune.

Hope this helps.

Man, you seem to know what you are talking about - will you tune my truck?
