Talking Lightning Engine Weight....585lbs.

I looked at the shipping tag for my Lighting engine, crate and all and it was 635 lbs. The crate weighs 50lbs so that would give a final weight of 585 lbs oil pan to throttle body. Just some info to compare with other engines. How does that compare with some other Ford V-8's?

Mike: My tag said the same.
Honestly don't know much about current Ford engines, but I'll sure bet my 69 chev 427 weighs a heck of a lot more than that. Not a spec of aluminum in that boat anchor, just lots of good old Michigan iron

From you Chevy experts, anyone know what a 390 horse Chev 427 put out in real horsepower either at the flywheel or at the rear wheels? I know the ratings then were "gross" hp out of the car with no trannie, open exhausts and a forced cooling setup. I never dynoed mine, nor 1/4 miled it, but I believe they ran in the low 13s at about 4500-4600 lbs. When it was fresh, it felt as good as the Bolt does today.
