Trans temp sender location
Anyone installed a trans temp gauge? I have to put one in a diesel F250 with the same 4R100 trans as the Lightning. I'm not keen on tapping the pan for it, and I noticed a small pipe plug on the driver's side, right in front of the linkage bracket. The temp sender fits perfect in there, but I'm not 100 sure that's a good spot. Anyone done this?
I have and from all the other reading I have done that is the perfered location. I can say the temperature is accurate within 5 degrees. I have data logged and the computer temperature reads within a few degrees of the Autometer temperature gauge.

Where can I install my fluid temperature gauge?
On the passenger side of the transmission, there is a test pressure port with a pipe plug in it, you can remove this pipe plug and install your temperature or pressure sending unit here. Most gauges are already the correct size or come with adapters to fit it.
thats what i found sounds like the same spot you said Sal

.That's where mine is.
Autometer tells you you don't have to ground it either, but if you don't the guage will just creep its way to the max temp.

umm! I read in Greggs earlier post to use pipe thread-tape on the threads of port, then on another posts he states not to use it, can contaminate tranny fluid
what should be used there? joint compound ,tape etc ? Thanx!

Thanks for that tip! My gauge has been a PITA, and now I know exactly why.
